Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that area of cloudiness west of the Baja peninsula is still sending bands of mostly whispys over the Sea of Cortez this morning. It looks we will continue to see these high cirrus all day. At times they will be thicker than a veil.
Looking now south to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera. Again this morning the coast is clear all the way to Central America.
The Tehuantepecker is still brewing in the Gulf this morning. The storm force winds have abated to gale force this morning and are expected to last through sunrise on Thursday. Friday through the weekend should see very moderate winds in the Gulf. The Sea state downstream will drop from around 16 feet today to around 8 feet on Thursday.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where the storm door is open for the Great Northwest with system after system bringing more rain and snow to the Cascades.
In northern California today smoke from the Big Sur fire is blanketing the coastal areas but has not reached the inland valleys yet.
Not much change in the weather until Wednesday when a low off the coast of Washington moves east and is absorbed by another trough of low pressure. This low will then drop south into northern California and the evolving storm will bring a return of the NW winds and gradually cooler temperatures to the end of the week. High pressure is forecast to return
next weekend.
In southern California will see one last warm day today under high pressure. Dense fog along the coast should not hamper the surfer dudes and dudettes as the surf is up in southern California for the next couple of days. Later in the week that system dropping south will bring showers Wednesday night through early Friday morning. It’s forecast to warm up next weekend.
Looking now over to the southwest where they can expect well above normal daytime temperatures today and tomorrow. A few locations will be near record highs today. Thursday a low will arrive bringing a good chance of valley rain and mountain snow into Friday night. It will also be much colder Friday and Saturday.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like the central Sea will see NW winds today in the high teens. The southern Sea mid teens today swing to the south tomorrow.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: 17NW today, 13SE tomorrow. And 22 SW on Thursday.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: around 20 today from the NW. less than 10 tomorrow from the NW and then on Thursday less than 10 from the SE.
The Baja side of the central Sea: around 20 today from the NW, 13 tomorrow from the NE and Thursday less than 10 from the SW.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Around 12-15k today from the North. Less than 10 tomorrow from the E and Thursday 12 from the SW.
East Cape: around 18 today from the NW then around 10 from the NE for the next two days.
The southern passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan: mid to high teens today from the NW. tomorrow moderate NW and Thursday light SW.
Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan to Cabo Corrienties light to moderate NW winds for the 3-day forecast period. south of the cape light SW winds.

73s Y’all

The final Full Moon of 2013 occurs tonight, and along with it comes something special: it will be the most distant and visually smallest Full Moon of 2013. This comes just 4 days before the winter solstice which marks the beginning of Winter. Which means that tonight when you howl at the moon you will mostly likely be wearing your fuzzy wooly boots, sweat pants and a hoodie. Go for it!
