I'M BACK FROM THE PLANET ZOE

Voice to Text

Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that a broad wet moisture plume originated along the ITCZ/Monsoon trough around 150W and reaching out toward Baja. Jet stream analysis is showing that within the plume is a short rather weak jet, not the powerful winter jet that originates in the western tropics during the winter months, which by-the-way has not made an appearance so far this winter season.
Will we see some showers, sprinkles or light rain from this plume? Yep, depending on where you are. We have already had a few sprinkles this morning here in the cove. The cloud coverage is from the northern crossing south to the cape. Within the plume there are stringy bands of rather wet cells, some rather weak and others that look like rain producers.
Will the plume be over the Sea of Cortez for another 24 hours? Yep again. I’m think’n; Bad time to plan a picnic.
Looking now south along the west coast of Mexico where I can see a few clouds around the coast just south of Cabo Corrienties, but that is it for the west coast.
Further south there is a good chance of a Tehuantepecker around mid next week. More on that as the event gets closer.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where at the top of this image I can see off shore moisture moving ashore bringing rain and snow to Washington, Oregon and extreme northern California this morning.
Northern California will be cold last night with lows generally above freezing in all areas. So it looks last night is the first night without a freeze warning since last Friday night’s rainfall. By this weekend the models build a strong ridge of high pressure from the Pacific that will slowly spread eastward through early next week. This could produce some record breading warmth by early next week. That being said many northern California cities only see highs in the 70s in mid December.
Looking to the south where there is a weak low just west of the international border circulating some clouds and very light showers and sprinkles in the San Diego area this morning. It will be slightly cooler over the region as a low moves inland. On Friday a colder front will rapidly moving through the area followed by gusterly winds and dry conditions. As high pressure fills in warmer weather is expected early next week.
Looking now over to the southwest where low pressure moving through Arizona will bring a chance of valley rain and mountains snow to the southwest today into early tomorrow. Right now it looks like most will be east of Tucson. The Tucson area should see slightly cooler temperatures today and tomorrow with warmer temperatures on tap for the weekend and early next week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it sort of depends on where you are. The northern Sea should see abundant sunshine, light to moderate NE winds today and tomorrow.
The rest of the Sea overcast skies with chances of light rain with NW winds in the 18-20 knot ranges for today and tomorrow.
This Saturday, much like last Saturday, will see the start of a two day blow with winds ballpark around 30 knots.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: 10-15 today and tomorrow from the NE. Saturday 29 knot NW.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: 20 knot today and tomorrow and around 30 on Saturday all from the NW.
The Baja side of the central Sea: 16-19 today and tomorrow and around 34 on Saturday, all from the NW.
Puerto Escondido: 15 today, NE. 22 tomorrow NW and around 30 on Saturday from the NW.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands. 14-17 today and tomorrow from the NE and around 23 on Saturday from the NW.
La Paz: 20 today, 23 tomorrow. And 29 on Saturday all from the NW.
The East Cape; 24-28 for the next 3 days all from the NW
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan will see 23-25 from the NW for the 3-day forecast period. Puerto Vallarta to Cabo Corrienties light NW, south of the cape light SW for the next 3 days.
And finally the Sonoran passage: All NW. Guaymas to half way: mid to high teens today, around 22 tomorrow. And 28 on sat.
Half way to Mazatlan: 22-25 for the 3-day forecast period.
