Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the moisture plume that has been providing clouds over most of the Sea for the past several days swung a bit to the north and the plume lightened considerably yesterday with mostly high cirrus clouds providing the Sea with mostly sunshine all day.
This morning this image is showing mostly high whispys backed up by some thicker mid level clouds to the west.
This morning the plume is joined by another lighter plume to the south that will be providing cloud cover over the cape region today.
The current IR and water vapor imagery continues to show a lot of moisture in the major plume. A cold front is still on schedule to pass through northern and central Baja this evening. A normal assumption would be when this dry cold air meets this moist plume you would see some rain. The bloggers in the cape region are all over the place with this system with some saying significant while others hedging their bets saying just sprinkles. Well we won’t have long to wait until we see what will happen. I’m thinking that the plume continues to have hot spots and it is probably these that will be the rain generators. It also looks like Concepcion Bay will be on the cusp of any rain that is generated. We’ll see!
Looking now to the west coast of Mexico where there is some cloud cover over Mazatlan and a thumper just off shore near Zihuatanejo and that is it of any clouds along the Mexican Riviera this morning.
Nothing cooking in the Gulf of Tehuantepec this morning.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where an arctic air mass will dip southward across the West Coast today, as below average temperatures will linger over several states. Temperatures will range between the 30s and 40s across the Pacific Northwest, while the Southwest can expect temperatures between the 50s and 60s. Valleys and deserts can expect nighttime temperatures to drop into the 30s, while higher elevations will experience even colder conditions. Light rain and snow will be possible in southern California and Arizona.
In northern California the National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning from tonight into 8am Saturday for the foothills, the Sacramento valley and just about everywhere else except in San Francisco it self. .
In southern California showers began last night and will taper off this morning. Snow levels will be as low as 3000 feet this morning. It will remain cold and gusterly into Friday when a wetter storm will arrive bringing mountain snow and valley rain.
Looking now over to the southwest where that system moving through the western conus will bring a chance of valley rain and mountain snow today through tomorrow night. It will also being much colder weather and gusterly winds. Another storm is on tap for the weekend.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like the northern Sea will continue to see strong southerlies today and the rest of the light winds.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: strong SW today to 23. Light NW tomorrow and light NE on Friday.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: NW for the next 3 days. Today light, tomorrow around 22 and then on Friday around 18.
The Baja side of the central Sea: light East today then moderate NE for Thursday and Friday.
Puerto Escondido: Moderate SW today. Light NE tomorrow. And moderate NE on Friday.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands. Light SW today: light NW tomorrow: then mid teens from the north on Friday.
La Paz: light SW today, light NW tomorrow and then around 20 on Friday from the NW.
The East Cape: light NE today. Around 17 tomorrow from the NW then 21 from the NW on Friday.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan south to Cabo Corrienties light NW winds. South of the cape light SW for the 3-day forecast period.
