Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the moisture plume that has been with us for several days will again be with us today and most likely tomorrow. This morning I can see some dark bottomed clouds in the mix along multi-level couds. Tomorrow when that arctic low swings through northern Baja it will meet up with this warm moist plume and I’d be surprised if we did not get some rain tomorrow night, perhaps in the afternoon. Depending on how far south the low sags we could see showers all the way to the cape. Maybe, perhaps? Well, we’ll see? You may want to put the liner back in your Speed-Os its going to get a bit chilly as this front passes through.
Looking now south to along the west coast of Mexico where I can see that Mazatlan is overcast this morning and there has been passing clouds between there and Cabo Corrienties all night however this morning the skies in this image look clear.
Nothing going on in the Tehuantepec and no wind events in the near future.
So that’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where a rather dry cold front moved out of the Gulf of Alaska and dropped down the British Columbia coast where it split. Half is pushing a very cold arctic air mass across Washington and Oregon this morning. This very cold air will blanket the western conus and will settle into the Great Basin for the next 48 hours.
The other half will sag down the west coast today through Thursday.
In northern California cold temperatures will last through at least Thursday so the freeze watch will extend into Wednesday night. In the Sacramento valley and the foothills temperatures could get down to the 20s tonight.
In southern California the low will bring a chance of showers late today into Thursday especially over the higher terrain. Snow levels will fall from around 8000 feet today to around 3000 feet tomorrow. It will also bring strong gusterly winds in the mountains and deserts today and this evening. The cold weather will continue all week with another chance of rain next weekend.
Looking now over to the southwest where mild and dry conditions will continue today. Tomorrow will bring a good chance of valley rain and mountain snow into Friday morning, with the first widespread freeze for the lower deserts on tap for Friday morning. This system will also bring much colder temperatures, lower snow levels and gusterly winds throughout the week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the Sea of Cortez will be mostly overcast today. The winds in general will be strong from the SW in the northern Sea today and moderate from the SE in the central and southern Sea today.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: 20 knot SW today and tomorrow and light NW on Thursday.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: light SE today. Light NW tomorrow and moderate NW on Thursday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: moderate east of SE today, light NE tomorrow and moderate NE on Thursday.
Puerto Escondido: Moderate SE today, Moderate SW tomorrow and then light NE on Thursday.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Winds in the mid to low teens for the 3-day forecast period. Today SE, tomorrow and Thursday NW.
The East Cape: light NW today, light SE tomorrow, and moderate NW on Thursday.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan today and Thursday around 18 from the NW, tomorrow around 12. Puerto Vallarta to Cabo Corrienties light NW for the 3-day forecast period. South of the cape light SW.
