Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see an area of disturbed weather SW of the cape this morning. Starting late yesterday afternoon it started sending a broad ragged plume of clouds that are spread out from around the Bay of LA to La Paz this morning. This image is showing a lot of moisture in these clouds so from time to time we should see some dark bottomed clouds passing over. They also gave Concepcion Bay a very colorful sunrise this morning with shades of red, orange and fuchsia shimmering on a flat bay this morning. .
Looking now south to the west coast of Mexico for any cloudiness and I can’t see any. In fact no clouds at all until you get to around Panama this morning.
Looking back to the Gulf of Tehuantepec where the Tehuantepecker will be winding down today and the gale force winds are expected to diminish by tomorrow in response to high pressure building over the Gulf of Mexico. It will be several days for the swell train SW of the Gulf to lie down after a week of sustained winds of mostly over 40 knots.
That’s what is gong on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where at the very top of his image I can see a very cold low that has just moved out of the interior of Alaska and is now poised to exit the Gulf of Alaska and start it’s descent down the west coast.
In the meantime the storm door is wide open for the Great Northwest with systems moving in from the Pacific and continuing to bring rain to the low lands and snow to the higher elevations. A flood watch has been issued for tomorrow through Monday for western Washington.
Monday the above mentioned arctic cold front will arrive and remain over the area through next week.
In Portland a significant change in the weather will begin later this evening and by Sunday moderate rain is expected. By Monday heavy rain along the coast and snow in the higher terrain as that arctic low arrives. Snow levels will drop to the foothills on Monday.
In northern California little change in the weather is expected over the weekend as high pressure continues to extend inland across California.
Monday the arctic low will arrive and bring considerably colder weather albeit no rain is in the forecast. They are referring to this cold low as “robust” and mostly dry.
In southern California that low that was off the coast yesterday is now moving east out of SE California into Arizona this morning. San Diego could see some sprinkles through Sunday night then Monday that cold low will arrive bringing gusterly winds, colder weather and a chance of showers.
Looking now over to the southwest where dry weather and above normal temperatures can be expected through early next week. That arctic low will spread out over western conus about the middle of the week leading to unsettled conditions for the southwest including a significant drop in the temperatures along with valley rain and mountain snow.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like we are in for a two day wind event over the weekend.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period. Unless noted all from the NW.
The northern Sea: around 22 over weekend and on Monday less than ten from the NE.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: 25 knots over the weekend and around 20 on Monday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: a little stronger on the Baja side: 27-28 Saturday and Sunday then Monday around 18.
Puerto Escondido: around 23 over the weekend and around 15 on Monday from The NE.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands. Moderate NE winds for the weekend and light NW winds on Monday.
La Paz: around 20 today and tomorrow and 15 on Monday.
East Cape: ballpark 20 knot winds over the 3-day forecast period.
Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan: mid teens today from the SW. The Puerto Vallarta area light NW winds, Cabo Corrienties and south mostly light SW winds.
