Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the moisture plume that brought cloudiness Wednesday and yesterday morning to the Sea continued to swing south and this morning this plume which is now quite ragged and spread out is just to the south of the cape. On the mainland Mazatlan to Puerto Vallarta should be seeing some patchy clouds from time to time today from this plume, but that’s about it for any clouds in the region.
That being said I viewed the NASA floater that I use on the Sonrisanet Tropical Page and that image is showing central Baja seeing some high whispys today that the other IR images did not show.
That’s it for any cloudiness in the Sea or along the west coast of Mexico this morning.
In the Gulf of Tehuantepec the Tehuantepecker is still cranked up producing strong gale force winds, down from previous storm force winds yesterday. This wind event is now expected to last a bit longer that the original forecast period, albeit weakening to minimal gale force. These sustained winds are producing swells to around 12 feet several hundred miles SW of the Gulf.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north where an upper low currently centered over the interior of Alaska is forecast to drop SSE along the British Columbia coast over the weekend and into the Great Northwest early next week. By midweek a large and cold upper trough will have been carved out across the entire western conus.
Meantime in the Great Northwest there will be a cold front move through followed by a colder front, followed by an even colder arctic low on Sunday night. Rain heavy at times will turn to snow bringing several inches of new snow to the Cascades.
In Oregon Snow levels will lower dramatically late Sunday night with snow forecast for the Willamette Valley floor with more snow on the way Monday.
In northern California dry and mild weather is forecast to continue right on through the weekend with high pressure off the California coast.
As mentioned above a significant change in the weather is forecast to occur during the early part of next week. This change will include much colder temperatures, gusterly conditions, and possibly some scattered light rainfall for the north-state. There is not a low of moisture associated with this Alaskan low so not a lot of rain is forecast. Snow levels however could drop to the foothills even the valley floor though.
In southern California there is a low spinning around 300 miles due west of San Diego this morning that will be bringing some mid and high clouds along with some sprinkles though the weekend.
Monday the southland will start to see cooler weather then colder weather by Tuesday. They could see some more light rain later in the week.
Looking now over to the southwest where they will see warmer than normal temperatures into early next week then that Alaskan low will bring a good chance of valley rain and mountain snow through the end of the week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence today should be pleasant with abundant sunshine along with light to moderate winds. Over the weekend we will have a two-day wind event with winds in the high 20s. Plenty of time to find a hidee-hole and a good book. If you are thinking that November has been a bit cooler than normal you are right. The average daytime high here in the cove for November is 83F. So far this month we are averaging 79F. If you are curious about other locations in the Sea the Sonrisanet website has these locations graphed by the month and up-dated daily for your viewing enjoyment.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period. Unless noted all the winds will be from the NW
The northern Sea: 16 today and 20-23 over the weekend.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: 16 today, 26-27 over the weekend.
The Baja side of the central Sea: 15 today, 27-28 over the weekend.
Puerto Escondido: 12 today from the NE. 23-25 for the weekend.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands. NE for the next 3 days. Today 17, tomorrow 16, and Sunday 12.
La Paz: 13 today, 21 over the weekend.
The East Cape: 15 today, 22 over the weekend.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan around 15 for the next 3 days. Puerto Vallarta and Cabo Corrienties light to moderate NW. South of the cape light SW winds for the 3-day forecast period.
