Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the Sea has been pretty much clear of any cloudiness after yesterdays clouds moved off to the east by late morning.
This morning there is a long moisture plume extending from around 140 within the ITCZ/Monsoon trough to southern California. There is a west/east flow in the Pacific and the plume is slowly drifting toward the Baja peninsula and we could see some cloudiness for this plume later today. We’ll see:
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera this image is showing no clouds along the coast to well into Central America.
However in the Gulf of Tehuantepec there will be a very brief period of tranquil marine conditions before the next Tehuantepecker arrives. Starting tomorrow through Saturday the Gulf will see sustained gale force winds with storm force winds on tap for tomorrow. Wave heights will be as tall as a single story house, around 22 feet. The swell train will extend from the Gulf out to around 120 along with strong winds.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where the Great Northwest will be seeing off and on showers into the weekend.
California in general will stay dry under high pressure. Friday there is a slight chance of some shower activity in northern California with early next week giving a better chance of any significant rain. Meantime it will remain cold with overnight lows in the 30 and getting up to around 60 during the days.
In southern California it will remain dry and gusterly near the coastal foothills through Wednesday then a trough of low pressure arriving from the west will bring cooling and most likely some rain late Thursday through Friday then the weekend is expected to be warmer and dry.
Looking now over to the southwest where they probably saw some freezing fog early this morning. Otherwise it is, and will be dry all week. Under building high pressure the southwest will see a warming trend.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence today will be day 3 of a 3-day blow.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: strong to 21 today from the NW. Tomorrow around 12 from the NE and Thursday around 15 from the SE.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: a bit less than 20 today from the NW. A bit less than 10 tomorrow from the NW and then on Thursday very light SE.
The Baja side of the central Sea: 22-24 today from the NW. Then mid teens from the NE for the next two days.
Puerto Escondido: about the same thing except SE winds on Thursday.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Around 20 today then 10 or less for the next two days.
The East Cape: around 16 today from the NW then 10 or less from the NE for the rest of the 3-day forecast period.
Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan high teens today from the NW, light SE tomorrow and then strong SE on Thursday to a bit less than 20.
Puerto Vallarta and Cabo Corrienties today will see winds in the high teens from the NW then light southerlies for the rest of the 3-day forecast period.
