Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see I can see for the most part the Sea had a good solar day yesterday. There were numerous scattered fluffys that moved in from the west during the day from time to time though.
This morning there is some cloudiness in the far northern Sea that moved down the California coast and hooked a left in southern California and now blankets portions of SE and SW Arizona this morning as well as the northern end of the Sea.
South of this to the southern end of the Sea it looks to be pretty much clear.
Looking now south to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera where from around Puerto Vallarta south to Zihuatanejo straggly band of clouds blanket the area; some are moisture packing. Most of this cloudiness is coming from convection leaving the ITCZ/Monsoon trough, but not all.
The rest of the cloudiness is coming from invest 98 Echo which is a large area of disturbed weather several hundred miles west of Manzanillo this morning. The National Hurricane Center is giving this a 30% chance of becoming our 19th named storm of the year. Several of the early model tracks have her taking aim on Cabo Corrienties tomorrow the others show a west/east swoop past the cape later this weekend. I’m leaning toward it hitting Cabo Corrienties tomorrow.
Option B would be for 98 Echo to just peter out well off shore with no danger to land. Besides I’ve closed the Tropical Kitchen for this season and send the fat lady home. I have a feeling this is gong to be one of those storms that has the forecast tracks change hourly. We’ll see? The Tropical Page on the Sonrisanet website will show current forecast up-dated from the National Hurricane Center about every 6 hours.
Further south the Tehuantepecker continues this morning with gale force winds in the Gulf of Tehuantepec. The forecast is for the winds to quickly diminish this morning to below gale force and below 25 by this evening. The huge seas that have been running are expected to subside below 8 feet by this evening. The Seas out to around 110W that have been in the 8-12 foot ranges for several days will now also subside starting later this morning.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where a cold front is bringing balmy and wet weather to the Great Northwest this morning. The Cascades will get a heavy dose of snow today.
The system will extend into extreme northern California today.
Then move SE into the Great Basin bringing rain and gusterly condition to the southwest this evening.
The storm will stay north of Southern California with the forecast for the southland dry and cool for this and another system that will pass to the north this weekend.
Looking now over to the southwest where it will be overcast, cool, gusterly and possibly wet during the upcoming weekend. Not much change for early next week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like most of the Sea will be seeing ballpark 20 knot southerlies this afternoon and a return to winds in the moderate ranges over the weekend.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: 22 knots today from the SW, the weekend light southerlies.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: around 17 knots today from the SE then light NW over the weekend.
The Baja side of the central Sea: a bit less than 20 today from the SW then mid teens from the NE over the weekend.
Puerto Escondido: low teens from the SE for the 3-day forecast period.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Around 12-13 today from the SE then light NE over the weekend.
The East Cape: light SE today, light NE or NW over the weekend.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan very light winds from the SE for the next 3 days. From Puerto Vallarta south mostly light SE winds today and Sunday. Tomorrow Puerto Vallarta: 20 ENE, Cabo Corrienties 40 ESE and Manzanillo 20 knots from the SE tomorrow.
This falls in line with the computer tracks that show this invest out there taking aim on Cabo Corrienties tomorrow.
