Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that there were a few mostly whispys pass over the Baja peninsula in the past 24 hours. They came from the NW.
Looking now south to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera where it is pretty much clear this morning with only a few mostly whispys passing over from Zihuatanejo south that are coming from some light thunderbumper activity along the ITCZ/Monsoon trough this morning.
The Gulf of Tehuantepec still has gale force winds this morning that are progged to increase to storm force tomorrow and lasting at those ranges into the evening hours tomorrow. The winds are then forecast to diminish throughout Thursday with a maximum of 25 knots expected at sunset on Friday. This Tehuantepecker has been a rather long wind event for the Gulf. It started 3 days ago and will last another 3-4 days.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where this image is showing a long plume of tropical moisture moving up from the western Pacific, passing the Hawaiian Islands and heading toward the Great Northwest as “their” Pineapple Express. That big honk’n low off the Washington coast is pushing the plume toward the Oregon and California coast rather than a direct hit like it normally would. So northern California, Oregon and of course Washington are getting a little rain this morning out of this plume.
The bay area will most likely not see any rain. Skies will clear as high pressure starts to build back over northern California. The main forecasting topic the rest of the week will be fire danger to the north state with dry humidity and dry forests.
In southern California where above normal temperatures will continue today. Even warmer temperatures are expected tomorrow as high pressure builds in from the Great Basin. A cooling trend will begin on Thursday with temperatures returning to normal by Saturday.
Looking now over to the southwest where well above normal temperatures will be around again today. Gusterly winds will also occur as a back-door cold front approaches from the EAST. Cooler temperatures starting on Wednesday lasting into the weekend. This weekend there is a slight chance of some valley showers and high elevation snow.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like today will be the last day of the strong winds. Tomorrow high teens and Thursday low teens.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: 24 today, 20 tomorrow from the NW then low teens on Thursday from the NE.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: 20 today, 17 tomorrow from the NW then less than 10 on Thursday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: 22 today, 20 tomorrow from the NW then around 12 on Thursday from the east.
Puerto Escondido: NE today and tomorrow. Today 18, tomorrow 15 and Thursday 12 from the SE.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands. Mid to low teens from the NE for the 3-day forecast period.
La Paz: 16 NW today, 13 NE tomorrow and then around 10 on Thursday from the NE.
The East Cape: 17 today NW. Tomorrow and Thursday light winds. Tomorrow NE, Thursday light SE.
Mexican Riviera: north of Cabo Corrienties light NW. South of Cabo Corrienties light SW for the 3-day forecast period.
