Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that again this morning the skies over Baja have been clear for the past 24 hours.
Off the west coast of the Baja peninsula it looks like a rather heavy fog bank is hugging the coast from around Turtle Bay north into northern California this morning.
Looking now south to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera I can see a few rather thin remnant clouds from Raymond passing over Cabo Corrienties this morning. The rest of the Mexican Riviera is pretty much cloud free.
In the Gulf of Tehuantepec we have a wind event, aka a Tehuantepecker with 30-41 knot winds and 17 foot seas. The winds are forecast to diminish to below gale force in 24 hours with overnight winds in the Gulf in the 20-25 knot ranges through Monday.
I would have though I’d have closed the Tropical Kitchen
Weeks ago but that’s not the case.
It looks like Raymond just won’t go away. He is now 184 miles further west of where he was yesterday; 482 miles west of Acapulco. He is no longer producing the torrential rains along the mainland coast and the current direction is pretty much due west. One would think that this was the last we would see of Raymond and he would continue on his way to Hawaii.
Ney, ney, ney, say the forecasters. They think that Raymond will re-intensify to a minimal hurricane again in the next couple of days, hit colder water revert back to a tropical storm and hook a hard right and head NE as a Tropical Depression.
The “hook a hard right and head NE as a Tropical Depression” bothers me because that puts it on dead aim for Baja and according to my little SST (Sea Surface Temperature) map, warmer waters.
Well if it does make it to Baja that will be about a week away. So we play the waiting game in late October no less. Furthermore it looks like I’m the only forecaster in the region who has not brought the fat lady out of her dressing room. Let’s hope I’m wrong.
Looking out into the Eastern Pacific basin and the ITCZ/Monsoon trough it appears to be not very active this morning with just a few thumpers working along 8N this morning.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where The West Coast will continue to experience clear skies today due to a high pressure system building along the California coast. Temperatures will range between the 50s and 60s in Washington, Oregon, and northern California, while temperatures in southern California, Nevada and Arizona will push into the 80s and 90s.
In southern California thick fog that has been hugging the coast for several days will become shallower today as high pressure builds over the southwest. This high will also bring warmer weather this weekend. On Monday a strong low from the north will bring cooler weather and a good chance of showers on Tuesday west of the mountains.
Looking over to the southwest a weak system will be exiting Arizona to the NE over the course of the day with clear and dry conditions in its wake for the weekend. Monday will see a change in the weather with breezy and cooler temperatures through the middle of the upcoming work week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence in general it looks like NW winds in the mid teens for today and tomorrow then light NE on Sunday.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: 16-18 NW today and tomorrow and around 10 on Sunday from the NE.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: The NW winds continue. Today and tomorrow 17-19 and Sunday around 10.
The Baja side of the central Sea: 14-17 today and tomorrow and around 10 on Sunday from the NE.
Puerto Escondido: 12-14 knots from the NE for the 3-day forecast period.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands. Low teens from the NE for the next 3 days.
La Paz: 12-15 today and tomorrow then around 10 on Sunday.
The East Cape: around 12 knots today from the NW, 17 tomorrow NW and then 10-12 on Sunday from the NE.
The Mexican Riviera: light winds mostly from the NW for the 3-day forecast period.
