Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the Sea of Cortez has been cloud free again for the past 24 hours.
Looking now south to the west coast of Mexico where from around Manzanillo south it is overcast and from Zihuatanejo to Acapulco rain.
No sooner than the hurricane season ends theTehuantepeckers start up in the Gulf. This morning there is an early season storm with gale force winds with seas to 14 feet that will be lasting though Saturday then quickly diminish and pulse to around 25 knots each night through Tuesday night.
In our Tropical Kitchen this morning himicane Raymond has been plutoed to a tropical storm and is as of 2am this morning 303 miles west of Acapulco. Although the winds have diminished to around 65 knots the deep convection associated with Raymond has been expanding.
Atmospheric conditions may be more conductive to enable Raymond to re-intensify somewhat over the next few days and that is reflected in the official forecast. The intensification would be from around 50 knot winds to around 65 knot winds, still below cat 1 hurricane levels.
Raymond is forecast to turn NW in 4-5 days. Even though the models agree on the overall pattern there is considerable spread in the track guidance in the 3-5 day time frame. Probably get a better idea in a couple of days.
The good news is the storm is moving away from the mainland where it has brought torrential rains. The rains continue this morning in Acapulco with perhaps another inch expected over the next few days. The webcam image at Acapulco was showing light rain and small surf in front of the hotels this am. So far they have received over 7 inches of rain.
All watches and warnings have been discontinued for the coast of Mexico.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where high pressure continues to be the headliner. For the Pacific NW they can expect mostly cool and dry conditions though the weekend with dense fog along the coast.
Northern California in the low 70s along the coast and low 80s in the inland valleys.
In southern California that advertized weak low will be moving though the area today and tomorrow cooling things down around 10 degrees from yesterday. Early next week a significant cooling will occur on Monday and Tuesday along with a chance of showers mainly over and west of the mountains due to another low moving through. Gusterly winds in the deserts will accompany this system.
Looking now over to the southwest where a cooling trend will take place through Friday as a weak low moves out of California into Arizona. The White Mountains could see a few thunderbumpers through tomorrow morning. It will warm a bit this weekend then much colder temperatures are expected by Tuesday and Wednesday as a strong low system drops southward through the Great Basin.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on his side of the Fence it looks like very light winds in the Sea today picking up to the mid teens tomorrow and then high teens on Saturday.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: ENE today less than 10. NW the next two days in the mid teens.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: NW for the next 3 days. Light today around 18 tomorrow and 21 on Saturday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: mid teens today from the NE. Moderate again tomorrow from the NW and a bit less than 20 from the NW on Saturday.
Puerto Escondido: light southerlies today. Low teens from the NE for the next two days.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Light westerly today, low NE tomorrow, and mid NW on Saturday.
The East Cape: NW for the 3-day forecast period. Light today, moderate tomorrow and around 17 on Saturday.
The Mexican Riviera: north of Cabo Corrienties mostly moderate NW winds for the 3-day forecast period. South of the cape mostly moderate SE or SW for the next 3 days.
