Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the Sea has been clear of any clouds for the past 24 hours.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico we have himicane Raymond between Manzanillo and Acapulco this morning.
Might as well talk about him right now. Well, exactly 24 hours from the time we had invest 97E in our hood it has become a Category 3 himicane with gusts to 130 mph. He is currently 182 miles SW of Manzanillo. Yesterday he was headed for land but has done a “Crazy Ivan” and headed west before stalling this morning.
The tracking models are changing every 6 hours and the latest at 4:30 this morning had Raymond moving a bit closer to land today before heading west again. Regardless of whether this storm moves much closer to shore heavy rainfall will likely spread northward into south-central Mexico during the next couple of days bringing life-threatening flash flooding and mud slides. The states of Guerrero and Michoacán are already receiving heavy rain. The Mexican government has hurricane advisories out between Acapulco and Lazaro Cardena this morning. Mexico City is already seeing rain from this storm. Reporting stations from just south of Puerto Vallarta are reporting rain this morning.
The latest track has Raymond moving a couple hundred miles west by Wednesday morning. Don’t chisel that in stone. We know the track record of these forecast tracks this season.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where there the October weather is benign on the west coast. No nothing except heavy fog from Seattle, even Portland had heavy fog this morning, all the way to Turtle Bay.
There is a big honk’n low well out in the Pacific that could bring some weather into southern California later in the week but that is a bit iffy right now. So just sunshine and mild October days and cool nights.
Looking now over to the southwest where they are having clear cool nights with the days forecast to warm a bit for most of the week. There is still a chance on Thursday for some showers over the White Mountains but otherwise just pleasant Autumn weather.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like moderate NE or NW winds for the 3-day forecast period.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: light NE today and Wednesday and moderate to 17 tomorrow.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: will continue to see moderate to strong NW winds today and tomorrow then low teens on Wednesday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: 13-17 mostly from the NE for the 3-day forecast period.
Puerto Escondido: low teens from the NE for the 3-day forecast period.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands. Light NE winds for the next 3 days. La Paz: mid teens for the 3-day forecast period mostly from the NW.
The East Cape: 17-21 today and tomorrow from the NW, a bit lighter on Wednesday.
Mexican Riviera: Cabo Corrienties north light to moderate mostly NW. South of the cape we have a cat 3 himicane very close to the coast between Lazaro Cardina and Acapulco that has 130 knot gusts. Take extreme caution if you are in this area. This is a butt ugly storm.
