Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see the moisture plume from Octave is spread out from the cape to the Bay of LA this morning. It looks like the entire region is experiencing rain this morning. This latest image is showing the storm center having some very high topped clouds and it looks like there is some thunderbumper activity between Todos Santos and Mag Bay this morning.
Looking south along the west coast of Mexico it looks to be pretty much clear all the way south into Central America this morning.
The Gulf of Tehuantepec is expected winds in the 25 knot ranges through this evening and back to the light ranges by tomorrow morning.
Very little activity in the ITCZ/Monsoon trough this morning.
There is however a lot activity in our Tropical Kitchen this morning. There are currently two tropical storms in our hood. Early this morning around 600 miles SW of the cape an area of disturbed weather was designated tropical storm Priscilla. She is forecast to sort of meander around in that general area, slowly moving into cooler waters over the next couple of days. Just some slight intensification today then the official forecast is for her to weaken to a Tropical Depression by Wednesday night, then a remnant low by Thursday night.
The other tropical storm, Octave, is 241 miles due west of the cape this morning and spreading rain over a good portion of the Baja peninsula and the Sea of Cortez. This image is showing rain as far north as Turtle Bay on the west coast and the Bay of LA on the west coast of the peninsula, and Puerto Panesco on the mainland side. The cloud plume extends NE across Sonora and pretty much blankets Texas this morning. She has just crossed over the 26ºc isotherm: south of which the environment is conducive for tropical development and north of this line the water is too cold for further development.
The current track has speeded up and moved a bit to the north over the past 24 hours and is now forecast to make landfall tomorrow afternoon around Scorpion Bay, San Juanico as a tropical depression.
Meantime Baja can expect steady rain and a good possibility of some thunderbumper activity in the cape region today.
No tropical storm advisories have been posted for the arrival of Octave on land tomorrow, but interests in that area could see some heavy rain.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where pretty much nothing is going on weather wise.
There is no rain forecast for the entire west coast today. Warming and dry is on most forecasts slates. Fire danger advisories are posted in many California locations this morning. Bad news: Low humidity. Good news: No winds.
Looking over to the southwest where this image is showing clear skies over the entire state this morning. They should see continued dry conditions with slightly below normal temperatures. A few weak systems will sweep through the region fro time to time this week and lead to periods of passing high clouds and some increased winds mainly over SE California and western Arizona.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on his side of the Fence rain today diminishing from the south to the north this evening as the storm moves north along the coast. Rain through Wednesday along the central and northern Sea.
Winds!!!!! I wish I had two models that agreed on the winds in the Sea for the next 3 days. I have to go with something so in general strong NW or NE winds for the next 3 days.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: NW for the next 3 days. Today mid teens, tomorrow low 20s and Wednesday high teens.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: 21-24 from mostly the NW for the next 3 days.
The Baja side of the central Sea: mostly NE today then NW for the next two. Concepcion Bay to Puerto Escondido are forecast to see 30 winds this afternoon. The next two days like the rest of the central Sea ballpark around 20 knots.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. The San Lorenzo Channel high teens today from the SE. Tomorrow light SW and Wednesday moderate NE.
La Paz mostly light NE for the 3-day forecast period.
The East Cape: strong to around 20 today, 13-18 from the NW for the next two.
The Mexican Riviera: pretty much light to moderate SW for the 3-day forecast period.
