Voice to Text
Looking down into the Sea this morning with the 24 hour loop it looks like the skies have been cloud free for the past 24 hours over the Sea of Cortez.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera I can see some light thunderbumper action between Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo this morning: most of it off shore.
Further south to almost Acapulco the coast is clear. From just north of Acapulco to well into Central America it is thunderbumper city.
Looking out into the Eastern Pacific basin and the ITCZ/Monsoon trough I can see that it is very active this morning.
Now looking in our Tropical Kitchen this morning. The smiley face I had put on the tropical page of the Sonrisanet website is gone this morning for good reason. It looks like we will be having an October Hurricane that will be affecting the Baja Peninsula. It is currently designated as Invest 94E.
The early prognosis is for it to become a tropical depression by this weekend and crank up to a hurricane shortly after that. The early computer generated tracks have it skirting the cape to the west as it moves WNW. We have seen these track change almost hourly this summer so don’t chisel this in stone.
Right now 94E is 302 miles SW of Acapulco around 900 miles south of the cape and moving WNW at around 10 mph.
Well let’s hope that the only excitement we see this month is Halloween. Remember Paul? He arrived here in el Burro cove with 50 mph winds on the 17th of October last year. Kicked big time butt in many locations including Mulegé.
OK, that’s what is going on in our hood this morning. Looking now north to the west coast of America where an Alaskan cold front is quickly moving down the coast today bringing rain, snow and wind to California.
In northern California as this storm will arrive from the NE it will be rather dry with little moisture. As it pushes south it will move closer to the coast and pick up moisture from the Pacific.
It will arrive in southern California today with enough moisture to bring measurable rainfall, much colder temperatures and strong winds.
Snow levels in the sierras from Lake Tahoe to the southern California mountains will be around 5000 feet with snow accumulations of half a foot or more in the higher elevations.
This is a fast mover and it should exit the southland late this evening or early tomorrow morning.
Looking now over to the southwest where the storm track will just brush the northern portion of Arizona early tomorrow morning. Around the Tucson area a blowing dust and wind advisory will be in effect from noon to 8 this evening. Sustained SW winds of 25-35 with gusts of 45-50 in some locations. Temperatures will be much cooler as the front passes. There is a slight chance of showers tomorrow and snow above 8500 feet. Dry conditions will return to the region on Friday with a gradual warming trend into the weekend.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like as that low swings out of California and into the Great Basin it will generate rather strong winds in the northern end of the Sea especially along the northern Sonoran coast. Following the frontal passage tomorrow the wind in the northern Sea should be light.
In general mostly moderate winds for the rest of the Sea for the 3-day forecast period.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: San Felipe on the Baja side and Puerto Panesco on the Sonoran coast will see 24-32 knot SW winds this afternoon and light to moderate winds for the next two days.
The bay of La area: 21 today from the SE, light tomorrow from the E and then moderate NW winds of Friday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: moderate winds over the 3-day forecast period. Today from the SE tomorrow and Friday NE.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Mostly light winds for the 3-day forecast period. Today SE, Tomorrow NW and Friday NE.
The East Cape: light to moderate for the next 3 days. Today SE, tomorrow and Friday NE.
The Mexican Riviera: mostly light winds for the 3-day forecast period all with a western component.
