Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that yesterday morning a thin band of whispys passed over the northern end of the Sea. These are the first clouds we have seen in over a week. It did not take long for them to pass over and the rest of the day the entire Sea was cloud free.
Looking now south to the west coast of Mexico where the coast is pretty much clear until you get to around Zihuatanejo. From there to Acapulco and the northwest corner of the Tehuantepec there are several large, high topped thunderbumpers pretty much merged into one large cell that extend perhaps a hundred miles west out into the Sea.
The Tehuantepec is clear of any clouds this morning however the winds there today will be in the low 20s and should diminish back to the low teens by tomorrow.
In our Tropical Kitchen this morning we still have tropical storm Norda. It is currently 993 miles SW of the cape and the latest forecast is for NO further development and for IT to continue on a westerly trek for at least one more day as a tropical storm then dissipate to a post tropical low later in the week. No danger to land from this system.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where a good sized cold low will start its march from British Columbia south into the Great Northwest today. It will initially move south over land and be rather dry and by central California the low will have moved closer to the coast and start picking up Pacific moisture.
Northern California will see light rain starting tomorrow in the Bay Area with the Sacramento valley probably just some cloudiness.
Central and southern California will start to see some heavier rain on Wednesday afternoon into Thursday. Along with the rain strong gusterly SW winds in the mountains and deserts with sustained winds of 20-30 with gusts to 50 mph and isolated gusts to 65 mph are possible.
Snow levels will lower to around 5000 feet from Lake Tahoe to the southern California mountains. The higher peaks could see about a half foot of new snow.
Looking now over to the southwest where that low will just brush the northern part of Arizona late Wednesday into Thursday. This will bring a chance of some rain at the lower elevations and snow above 9000 feet. Dry conditions will return Friday into the weekend with a gradual warming trend.
That is what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it’s that time of year when we have a couple of days of northerlies and a couple of days of southerlies until the end of the month. In general, the next two days will be moderate southerlies then moderate northerlies on Thursday.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: moderate southerlies today, strong tomorrow the moderate northerlies return on Thursday
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: light SE today, moderate SE tomorrow, and moderate NW on Thursday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: moderate NE today, moderate SE tomorrow and then return to the moderate NE on Thursday.
Puerto Escondido: moderate SE for the 3-day forecast period.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Mostly moderate SW today and tomorrow then light NW on Thursday.
The East Cape: light NE today, moderate SE tomorrow and moderate NE again on Thursday.
The Mexican Riviera: pretty much light to moderate SW over the 3-day forecast period.
