Voice to Text

Of note this morning: many of NOAA’s and the National Weather Service services are back on line again, however with a disclaimer.

Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see the Sea has been cloud free for the past 24 hours.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera I can see there was a small thumper pop up around Cabo Corrienties and another in the Puerto Vallarta area early this morning and both have pretty much dissipated now. It looks like right now the entire west coast is free of any clouds this morning.
Still on the very back burner in our Tropical Kitchen this morning is invest 93E. It is well west of Manzanillo and well south of the cape and very slowly moving west. Satellite imagery is showing a moderate amount of convection around the low, however there only a very slim chance that this will develop any further. Probably slim to none.
That’s what is going on in our hood this morning. Looking now north to the west coast of America where in general it will be windy this weekend.
There is a big honk’n cold 1032 high that has settled over Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, northern Nevada, northern Utah and New Mexico this morning. The isobars are stacked closely from around the 4 Corners to the international Fence this morning with the bar along the Fence around 1012.
Looking now back to the top of this image and the Great Northwest where a series of rather weak wet systems will move through the area until Wednesday then a strong cold low will dip down from British Columbia and bring cold rain to coastal communities and inland valleys and snow down to around 5000 feet while pushing the high off to the east.
This weekend the that high will remain over the western conus and give cause to strong Santa Ana Winds in the La Basin that should abate by late tomorrow into Sunday. In the meantime a high wind watch remains in effect for the southland with winds in the 25-35 knot ranges with gusts between 50-60 mph.
In southern California the Santa Ana winds will bring hot and dry to the region along with the strong winds increasing the fire danger. The silver lining is that firefighting operations in California will not be affected by the government shutdown
The San Diego area will also be affected by the approaching storm system on Wednesday and could bring the first rain and mountain snow to southern California by late Wednesday.
Looking now over to the southwest first in the Yuma and lower Colorado River areas where wind advisories have been posted for sustained winds in the 20-25 mph ranges and gusts to 35. The advisories should be lifted by this evening.
Looking now over to the Tucson area where there was no mention of high winds in the forecast, however they did mention colder temperatures than yesterday and later in the week that cold wet low will move out of California and bring much colder temperatures and a good chance of rain to the region late next week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like from San Felipe to Concepcion Bay will see ballpark 30K winds today, a bit less tomorrow and moderate winds on Monday.
Puerto Escondido south not much more than 20.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: 33 today, 28 tomorrow the light ENE winds on Monday.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: 34 today, 27 tomorrow and then light NW on Monday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: around 30 today, 23 tomorrow and then light ENE on Monday.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. NW winds to 20 today, mid teens tomorrow and light SE on Monday.
The East Cape: 18-20 today and tomorrow from the NW then light NE on Monday.
The Mexican Riviera: light winds over the 3-day forecast period. Mazatlan light WSW for the next 3 days. Puerto Vallarta and Cabo Corrienties light NW and south of the cape light SW winds for the 3-day forecast period
