Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see the Sea has had another 24 hours of pretty much cloudless skies.
Looking south along the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera I can see there has been a solid wall of thunderbumpers along the coast for two days now. I can see a nice size cell developing around Puerto Vallarta this morning. These storms as well as the tropical storms in the past weeks have dumped a lot of rain along the coast causing a lot of flood damage and lose of life. The wanna-be low now just west of Zihuatanejo this morning will be adding more rain to the region.
Might as well bring up our Tropical Kitchen now. That low (invest 92) was about 375 miles west of the Gulf of Tehuantepec last night and this morning it is just west of Zihuatanejo moving at around 12 mph. The models are showing a familiar pattern reminiscent of Himicane Manual last week with some of the early computer tracks showing the system moving off to the west, some moving inland and a few showing the system moving into the Sea of Cortez.
Earlier forecasts had this system as a “gonna-be” over the weekend, now they are not quite sure. The one thing that will happen, with the close proximity to land, is it will produce rain, probably heavy at times, along the west coast of Mexico as it slowly moves north over the next couple of days. The coast is already saturated with rain from Manuel and more rain has the potential for bringing additional flooding and mud slides.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where the winter storm door is open in the Great Northwest. A series of fronts will move through the region bringing wet into the region into early next week.
In Northern California they say a miracle happened in San Francisco bay yesterday with team USA coming from 8 points behind to win the American’s cup.
Weather-wise the delightful weather in northern California will come to an end this weekend with a big honk’n low moving in from the Pacific. By late Sunday night rain will spread into northern California into Monday. The storm should exit to the east on Monday evening then next week the forecast is for seasonal cool and dry.
In southern California they could see a few light showers this morning and gusterly and cool conditions today. Tomorrow high pressure is progged to start to rebuild bringing drying and much warmer weather through the weekend.
Looking over to the southwest where that low moving through the Great Basin will result in gusterly condition across most of southwest Arizona today. In addition to the winds there will be enough moisture for a slight chance of some showers this afternoon and evening mainly over the White Mountains and the higher elevations. Tomorrow the “Weather Owl” at 5000 feet says with high pressure rebuilding the southwest should see warmer temperatures over the weekend into early next week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like the northern and southern Seas will be gusterly today while the central Sea remains in the moderate ranges.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: strong to 20 today from the SW. Tomorrow swinging to the NW at 20 then moderate NW of Saturday.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: I would have expected to see light SW today but the models are showing light NW today. Tomorrow moderate NW and Saturday light NW.
The Baja side of the central Sea: light SW today then light to moderate NE wind for Friday and Saturday.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Strong winds to 20 today from the SW. Tomorrow light NW and Saturday light NE.
The East Cape: moderate NW today, Light NW tomorrow and Light NE on Saturday.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan will see light NW over the 3-day forecast period. To the south we have a “wanna-be” low paralleling the coast and is now west of Zihuatanejo. As long as it’s a “wanna-be” the winds will be in the light to moderate ranges from mainly SE along the coast. The jury is still out on whether it will be a “gonna-be”.
