Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that we have had another 24 hours with cloudless skies over the Sea of Cortez.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera I can see a few squalls off shore and the remnants of earlier thumpers along the coast, so in general it’s just mostly cloudy until you get to the Gulf of Tehuantepec where there is a big honk’n thunderbumper sitting on top of the Gulf this morning.
Not a lot going on out in the Eastern Pacific basin or along the ITCZ/Monsoon trough this morning just a few a few isolated showers and thunderbumper along 8N this morning.
There is still nothing going on in our Tropical Kitchen this morning. There are a couple of wanna-be lows down south. One is around 101W and close to ITCZ/Monsoon trough. Global models are indicating this low to have the best chance of future development and they are giving it a low chance at that. The region is actually pretty dry right now.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where a couple of wet lows will be bringing rain to Washington, Oregon, extreme northern California and northern Nevada today.
The Great Northwest should see some sunshine but mostly rain for the rest of the week.
The weather will stay to the north of California except for right along the Oregon border. So it looks like fine weather for the America Cup races in San Francisco today as the Kiwi’s try for one more win to take the cup home.
No rain is in the forecast for northern California. A ridge of high pressure will build back into the north state for the end of the week through the first half of next week. So a bit warmer along with sunny skies for the next week.
In southern California a cooling trend will begin today as offshore flow returns with low clouds and fog along the coast through tomorrow morning. A low will move through the southland tomorrow morning and that will bring much colder weather and strong west winds to the mountains and deserts tomorrow and Thursday. Friday will bring back high pressure and warmer temperatures and drier weather throughout the weekend.
Over in the southwest high pressure will bring on a warming trend today then a trough moving out of California will bring gusterly winds Wednesday followed by cooler temperatures on Thursday and Friday.
So with not much going on there I tried Google Earth to find the giant Owl in Hoot Owl Hollow and Hoot Owl Hollow did not show up on Google Earth. It did show streets like Critter & Muffin lanes off of Ash Canyon Rd. though. Looks pretty rural there!
Anyway that’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the winds (in general) for the Sea will continue to be in the moderate ranges for the 3-day forecast period. The northern Sea could be a bit lumpy tomorrow and Thursday though.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: light NE today, tomorrow and Thursday 18-20 from the SW.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: brisk today in the 15-18 knot ranges. Light winds from the SW tomorrow and Thursday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: 14-16 today from the NE. 11-14E tomorrow and light winds from the SW on Thursday.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Light NE or NW today, Moderate SW tomorrow and Thursday.
The East Cape: light to moderate NW for the 3-day forecast period.
The Mexican Riviera: Mostly light SW for the next 3 days.
