Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that after the clouds cleared over the cape region yesterday morning the skies have been pretty much clear for the entire Sea for the past 24 hours.
Over in Sonora there were a few cells develop and then quickly dissipate yesterday afternoon but that was it for the state.
Any tropical moisture in the area is being transported through Chihuahua into New Mexico.
Looking south to the cape this morning I can see some fluffys in the region but none look like rain producers. I’d imagine they will burn off with the sun early this morning.
Looking now over to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera this morning where north of Cabo Corrienties it remains clear this morning, looking south we are into our Tropical Kitchen.
What an amazing storm: It went from an invest to a Tropical Depression then to tropical storm Manuel in about 9 hours. It is now our 13th named storm of the season and is pretty much stationary this morning around 147 miles SW of Zihuatanejo.
This storm dynamics are working in conjunction with tropical storm Ingrid in the bay of Campeche. They will be producing torrential rains and life-threatening flooding and mud slides over a large portion of eastern and central Mexico over the next couple of days as they both move slowly to the north. I would expect that Manuel will reach hurricane status before reaching landfall around Manzanillo on Sunday. Interests along the coast from western Oaxaca through Guerrero can expect the combined marine hazards of rough seas and dangerous rip currents along with gale force winds as the storm gets closer to land. Inland rain amounts of 10-15 inches with 24 inches possible in the mountainous regions. This could turn out to be a very ugly storm.
Anyway that is what is happening in our hood this morning. Looking now north to the west coast of America where autumn is trying to happen. A low off the northern coast is going to bring the possibility of showers to extreme northern California to Washington this weekend.
Most of northern California will cool a bit due to the low to the north but no rain is in their forecast.
In southern California weak high pressure will build over the region through tomorrow resulting in dense fog along the coast and warm days inland. The high will give way to a broad low developing across the west on Monday. This trough will bring slow cooling to the southland.
Looking now over to the southwest where disturbances to the north will allow some moisture to remain through this weekend resulting in mainly isolated showers and thunderbumper to the east to Tucson. Dryer air is expected to move back into the region early next week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like this weekend the northern and central Sea will be seeing brisk to strong NW winds.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: mid to high teens from the NW for the weekend. Monday NW in the low teens.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: NW 20-22 over the weekend. Light W on Monday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: 12-15 NW today. 16-20 tomorrow a light NE on Monday.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Light to moderate NE for the 3-day forecast period.
The East Cape: around 20 today from the NW, tomorrow light NE, and Monday very light SE.
The Mexican Riviera: north of Cabo Corrienties moderate mostly NW. south of Cabo Corrienties Brother Manuel will be bringing strong winds and lots to rain to the west coast from Acapulco to Manzanillo over the weekend. Monday Manuel should be over land and probably a Tropical Depression again. We’ll see?
