Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the Sea of Cortez has been pretty much cloud free for the past 24 hours.
Looking over at Sonora where there were a few cells that developed in the mountains to the east of Los Mochas last night but they have dissipated and there is just a few remnant clouds in that area right now.
No thunderbumper activity in the rest of the state. Moisture moving up from central Mexico is moving through Chihuahua into Texas again this morning.
Looking now south to the Mexican Riviera around Puerto Vallarta there were a couple of cells develop last night and moved out into the Sea and have pretty much dissipated now with just some remnant clouds in the area.
A bit further south from Cabo Corrienties south there is a solid line of thumpers along the coast to Central American this morning.

Everyone has been wondering when the other shoe would drop. Well, bonk! It’s been 4 days without anything tropical in the Eastern Pacific basin and this is the peak of our season. Careful what you ask for: In our Tropical Kitchen this morning we have invest 90 Echo. This low is currently WSW of the Gulf of Tehuantepec. The National Hurricane Center is not giving it much of a chance of development into a named storm for the next 5 days. The early computer tracks have it drifting north close to the mainland shore.
The significant feature of this system is the proximity of a low over the Yucatan this morning that will most likely see further development during the next couple of days. Even though these two systems are separated by mainland Mexico they will pretty much parallel each other as they move north. This combination could bring heavy rains to areas along the Mexican Riviera including life-threatening flash floods and mud slides.
That’s what is going on in our hood this morning. Looking now north to the west coast of America where the entire west coast will be seeing sunshine and un-September like warm weather that is expected to last into the weekend.
For southern California coastal fog in the mornings and evenings and sunshine during the day. No tropical moisture in the area so the thunderbumper activity in the mountains has diminished to almost zero.
Looking now over to the southwest where it will be mostly dry and hot into the weekend, around 106 in some desert locations. There is an upper low drifting northward across the Great Basin this morning that will allow some moisture to push into the east today into the weekend resulting in mainly isolated showers and thunderbumpers to the east of Tucson. Drier air is progged to move back into the region early next week.
Well, that is what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like we will be having two days of strong NW winds. The Sonora coast from Bahia Keno Nuevo to Guaymas should see the strongest winds and they should be in the 26-28 knot ranges. The Baja side ballpark around 20.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The Baja side of the northern Sea: NW for the 3-day forecast period. Today around 21, tomorrow 19 and Saturday the NW winds should be in moderate ranges in the mid teens.
The Sonoran side of the northern Sea: strong winds to 28 today, 24 tomorrow and mid teens on Saturday.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: all NW: 26 today, 21 tomorrow and low teens on Saturday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: around 22 today, 20 tomorrow and low teens on Saturday, all from the NW.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Moderate NE today, light NE Friday and Saturday.
The East Cape: around 18 this afternoon from the NW, 16 tomorrow and 13 on Saturday.
The Mexican Riviera: Cabo Corrienties north light NW or SW. south of Cabo Corrienties light SE for the 3-day forecast period.
As far as any rain on the peninsula, Accuweather is forecasting heavy rain this afternoon and evening in the La Paz area. We’ll see?
The rest of the peninsula should see afternoon buildup along the coast with the possibility of brief afternoon showers or thunderbumpers.
