Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the Sea of Cortez is virtually cloud free this morning. The 24 hour loop is showing mostly clear skies yesterday with afternoon fluffys popping up along the coast and back in the mountains. If they produced any rain this image is unable to pick that up. Here in Concepcion Bay we had some fluffys over the peninsula and back in the hills to the west of the cove but no thunderbumper or rain.
Looking over to Sonora I can see that that region has been pretty much cloud free for the past 24 hours. All the moisture moving up from SE Mexico has been moving up through Chihuahua and into Texas passing to the east of Sonora.
Looking now to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera I can see a large cell has developed to the east of Puerto Vallarta and has moved toward the coast and now is in open water and now moving slowly to the north. Further down the coast there are enough several smaller cells to blanket the coast all the way south to Central America this morning.
West of the Gulf of Tehuantepec there is a large area of thunderbumpers that extend well out into the basin and into the ITCZ/Monsoon trough around 12N this morning.
There is nothing cooking in OUR Tropical Kitchen this morning.
Over in the Caribbean there is a low moving over the Yucatan today that will enter the Bay of Campeche tomorrow. No matter how this system develops it will be dumping lots of heavy rain and gusterly winds over Belize, Guatemala and the Yucatan peninsula for the next couple of days.
As this system moves in the Bay of Campeche tomorrow winds will crank up over the Tehuantepec isthmus and into the gulf of Tehuantepec. Winds in the Tehuantepec are forecast to be around 20 knots on Friday.
Long range models are not showing anything tropical popping up in our hood for the next 3-4 days.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where heat advisories have been posted by the National Weather Service for northwest Washington and Seattle today. Record highs temperatures of around 90 are forecast for Seattle today.
Northern California is forecast to continue to be warm and dry. This dry pattern is expected to persist through the workweek.
In southern California generally fair weather is expected this week. There is a slight chance of an afternoon thunderbumpers in the mountains. Building high pressure over the west will bring on a warming trend into the weekend, then as high weakens early next week it will cool down a bit.
Looking now over to the southwest where a drier and more stable westerly flow will spread across the southwest and south central Arizona the remainder of the week and weekend. Not much of a chance of any thunderbumper activity today and tomorrow; they will be limited to the mountains to the north and east. Without the moisture and the clouds temperatures will be in the triple digits through the weekend. Officially the monsoon season is now over. It looks like it’s going along with the forecast.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like we will be seeing NW winds for the 3-day forecast period. Moderate today but picking up to the mid 20s tomorrow and a bit less on Friday.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: light NE today. Around 20 tomorrow and the mid teens on Friday.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: they are expected to see 20-26 knot NW winds over the 3-day forecast period.
The Baja side of the central Sea: moderate today, around 20 tomorrow and high teens on Friday.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. It looks like mid teens from the NE for the next 3 days.
The East Cape: All NW mid teens today and Friday and around 20 tomorrow.
The Mexican Riviera: Cabo Corrienties north light NW. South of the cape light SW for the 3-day forecast period.
