Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that yesterday there was scattered fluffys, many with dark bottoms all over the central and southern Sea. There were also a few thumpers back in the mountains between La Paz and Concepcion Bay yesterday. The night has been relatively calm with no storms in the Sea; well there were a couple of cells that popped up close to shore around Topalabombo. They are still there this morning but do not appear to be getting larger or expanding out into the Sea.
This morning the Sea looks much like yesterday but with fewer fluffys roaming around. Water vapor imagery is showing most of the heavy moisture is over Sonora, so today should be a mix of sunshine and a thunderbumper or two in the afternoon. The northern Sea looks to be clear this morning except for the San Filepe area where they have had light off and on rain for the past 24 hours. .
Looking now south to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera I can see numerous thunderbumpers working along the coast all the way south to the Gulf of Tehuantepec this morning. The Tehuantepec as well as most of Central America have numerous thunderbumper all over the place. It’s hard to find a location that is not blanketed by thunderbumpers. The Mazatlan Weather Undergournd station I use, El Lido in downtown Mazatlan reported .75 inches of rain since midnight and 6.33 inches of rain yesterday. That’s a bunch of rain if the gage is correct.
The ITCZ/Monsoon trough is moderately active this morning with fewer thumpers working along the zone than that past few days.
There is nothing cooking in our Tropical Kitchen this morning. The Tropical Wave that passed over the Yucatan and into Guatemala yesterday has been absorbed by low pressure to the west of Central America and is no longer defined.
Long range models are not showing anything popping up for the next 3-4 days.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where a strong upper level ridge will keep western Washington mostly sunny and warm through late in this week.
In northern California they will be going through the changes this week. Today will be a bit cooler, tomorrow a bit warmer and finally it will cool off a bit into the weekend. No rain is in the forecast.
In southern California they will continue to have a chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderbumpers over the mountains and deserts. A shallow marine layer will keep the coastal areas cooler.
Looking now over to the south-WET. This image is showing a broad moisture plume paralleling the Sonora and Chihuahua border this morning sending a lot of moisture into Arizona. Bob’s station in Herferd was not on this morning but in downtown Tucson it was raining. They can expect to see showers and thunderbumpers all day with the potential of heavy downpours. Moisture will be slow to clear this week keeping thunderbumpers in the forecast to the end of the work week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence wind-wise it looks like those light to moderate SE winds will continue today. Tomorrow picking up a bit from the north and Thursday strong NW winds. Ski condition: It looks like thumpers could be roaming around today in the central and southern seas and back in the mountains.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: mid teens today and tomorrow. Today SE, tomorrow NE and Thursday ballpark 20k winds from the NW.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: today moderate SW winds. Tomorrow around 20 in the afternoon from the NW and Thursday could see around 24 from the NW.
The Baja side of the central Sea: mid teens today from the SE. Mid teens tomorrow from the north and Thursday around 20 from the NW. Puerto Escondido will continue to see winds in the mid teens for the 3-day forecast period.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Light SE today, moderate NE for the next two days.
The East Cape: light NE today, Moderate NW for the next two days.
The Mexican Riviera: it looks like either light SE or SW for the next 3 days.
