Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the Sea did not quite clear yesterday. It looks like most of the time there were big time dark bottomed fluffys from around San Francisquito Bay south to the cape. This 24 hour loop is also showing a lot a thunderbumper activity in the mountains from around Puerto Escondido south to Santa Rosalia yesterday.
Here in Concepcion Bay there were scattered showers most of the day, some very heavy. It looks like the cape region also has scattered showers. This morning this image looks like it is clearing but I was fooled yesterday. So I used the old weatherman trick and looked outside. Damn. The skies were black and it looked like it was going to rain here in the cove again this morning. Glad I checked. Cancel that clearing call.
Looking now over to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera I can see that yesterday afternoon there were several big honk’n cell develop in the Puerto Vallarta area and drift out into the Sea. Puerto Vallarta reported almost 4 inches of rain yesterday. Most of these ended before midnight and right now I’m looking at remnant clouds as well as several new cell that have popped up that are spread out from Cabo Corrienties north to a bit north of Topalabambo.
South of Cabo Corrienties there are just some remnant clouds along the coast until you get to the Gulf of Tehuantepec where the entire isthmus is blanketed with thunderbumpers this morning. Zihuatanejo had about an inch and a half of rain yesterday none since midnight.
Looking now at Sonora from Topalabambo north to Guaymas there are several rather small cells working along the coast this morning. Inland along the Chihuahua/Sonora border there is a moisture plume that is sending a lot of moisture across the Fence into SW Arizona this morning.
There is nothing cooking in out Tropical Kitchen this morning. The remnants of Lorena are off the west coast of the Baja peninsula with just some isolated and scattered showers. This image is showing very little convection in the area.
There is a Tropical Wave moving over the Yucatan this morning with the southern arm extending to the coast of Guatemala by late this evening. It is helping fire off thunderbumpers in SE Mexico and the Gulf of Tehuantepec this morning. When, and if, it makes it into the Eastern Pacific basin it will be looking for a lonely low to stimulate. As of this morning there is nothing in the basin for it to interact with. We are in peak season right now so this honeymoon won’t last long.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where a high off the Washington coast could bring record high temperatures to Seattle through Wednesday.
In northern California this could be the last day of their heat wave. By tomorrow San Francisco will dip around 10 degrees to the mid 70s and inland should be in the low 90s.
In southern California they will continue to see isolated shower and thunderbumper activity in the mountains and deserts through midweek. High pressure from the west will build into next weekend effectively cutting off access to sub tropical moisture from the south.
Looking now over to the south-WET where Tucson radar at 5:30 this morning was showing a line of showers crossing the Fence, passing over Tucson and heading to Phoenix. The forecast for both cities is for continue scattered showers and thunderbumpers with the possibility of heavy downpours resulting in runoff problems especially late today and early tomorrow. A gradual decrease in moisture will then lead to reduced thunderbumper activity during the second half of the week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like light to moderate SE winds for today and tomorrow and moderate NE or NW on Wednesday.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: light to moderate winds for the next 3 days. Today and tomorrow from the SE, Wednesday NE.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: moderate SE winds today and tomorrow then NW on Wednesday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: moderate ESE today and tomorrow then moderate NE on Wednesday.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Light winds for the next 3 days. Today and tomorrow SE or SW and Wednesday light NW.
The East Cape: light east today and moderate NW tomorrow and Wednesday.
The Mexican Riviera: mostly light to moderate SE for the next 3 days. Mazatlan today could see some afternoon gusts in the high teens though.
