Looking down into the Sea this Labor Day morning I can see that yesterday morning Tropical Depression Kiko was spinning some mostly scattered whispys over the southern Sea. Most of these did not cross the Sea but stayed close the Baja coast and extended south along the Baja coast to around Santa Rosalia by early afternoon.
This morning there is still some residual cloudiness spread out over the peninsula from around Puerto Escondido to Santa Rosalia that extends a short ways out into the Sea. Otherwise the rest of the Sea looks to be clear this morning.
Over in Sonora the thunderbumper activity was fairly light with only one large cell developing in central Sonora and during the night move toward the Fence where it stayed in the NW corner of the state not crossing the Fence until this time this morning.
Looking to the south I can see a cell developed to the east of Puerto Vallarta and as it built it moved NW and as of 5am was centered over Mazatlan and was moving out into the southern crossing. By 7am it has moved north to almost Los Mochas and crossed about half way across the Sea.
Looking further south along the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera I can see that all along the coast it is a hotbed of thunderbumper activity all the way south to the Tehuantepec this morning.
Looking out into the Eastern Pacific basin and this ITCZ/Monsoon trough I can see that it too is very activity this morning with numerous thunderbumpers working all along 10N this morning.
Looking now in our Tropical Kitchen this morning where we have Tropical Depression Kiko around 362 miles WNW of the cape. She almost made hurricane status yesterday with an outer eye almost forming but collapsed quickly. The remaining convection is barely visible this morning and the system is progged to Pluto to a remnant low later today where it is expected to park for a few days or very slowly move north. Regardless after this morning we shouldn’t be seeing any more cloudiness from this system.
There are a couple of lonely lows embedded in the monsoon trough around 125 and 136 west that are expected to crank up over the next couple of days. They will be courted by a Tropical Wave this is crossing the Yucatan peninsula and Guatemala this morning. It is moving into western Honduras and El Salvador bringing heavy rains and thunderbumpers. We should see some tropical development about mid week from one or both of these two systems.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where again in Seattle there is a threat of showers today as an upper level low approaches the coast.
In northern California the models are showing that low in the Great Northwest dragging a cold front with it and bringing a threat of showers in northern California today through Thursday when it is progged to eject to the east.
In southern California there will be a slight decrease in the monsoonal moisture moving into the region today resulting in a few less thunderbumpers in the mountains and deserts today. Tomorrow the thunderbumpers and showers will crank up a bit until around mid week.
Looking now over to the southwest where there will be a slight decline in the moisture in the region but enough to produce isolated and scattered showers and thunderbumpers for the first half of the week then to a lesser extent the later portion.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence in general it looks like light to moderate northerlies for the entire Sea for the 3-day forecast period.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: low to mid teens from the north for the 3-day forecast period.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: moderate in the mid teen from the NW for the 3-day forecast period.
The Baja side of the central Sea: light to moderate winds from the NE for the next 3 days.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Mostly light SW winds for the 3-day forecast period.
The East Cape: around 10 knots today from the NW then light winds from the SE for Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Mexican Riviera: I could just rubber stamp their weather. Cabo Corrienties north light WSW. South of Cabo Corrienties mostly light SE for the next 3 days.
