Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that that large cell that took up most of the central Sea yesterday morning took it’s time clearing to the west around noon yesterday.
This morning the southern Sea is seeing mostly whispys from TROPICAL STORM Kiko that is SW of the cape this morning. As Kiko spins up today it looks like the outer clouds in this swirl could move into the central Sea. Should this happen we could see a couple of days of overcast skies albeit no rain. We’ll see?
Over in Sonora this morning most of the thunderbumper activity took place in the northern portion with one large cell sending some cloudiness over the northern Sea last night. It is dissipating this morning.
Looking now south to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera where the coast is virtually clear all the way south to the Tehuantepec where there is a big honk’n thunderbumper sitting right over the top of the Gulf this morning.
Looking in our Tropical Kitchen this morning I can see that TROPICAL STORM Kiko is currently 329 miles WSW of the cape on a very slow Northwestern track and is forecast to pose no threat to land.
Kiko cranked up during the night and as advertized could briefly become a hurricane today before moving into cooler waters later this evening. Models remain consistent with the storm becoming a remnant low in about 3 days and dissipate shortly thereafter.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where at the top of this image I can see that Seattle will be seeing sunshine during the day with the threat of rain returning this evening into early next week.
On this first day of meteorological fall in northern California the coast and the inland valleys will be experiencing very pleasant weather. Mid 60s along the coast and the low to mid 90s inland.
In southern California monsoonal moisture will continue to move into the southland all week into next weekend. There will be a decrease in the thunderbumper activity in the mountains and deserts today and pick up a bit next week. The high temperatures today and for most of the week will be around 80 in San Diego.
Looking now over to the southwest where this image is showing lots of thunderbumper activity from that dying thunderbumper complex south of Nogales last night. This image is showing just a shallow overflow crossing the Fence. The best chances for thunderbumper activity this evening will be in the higher elevations. Labor Day could see an uptick in activity with Tuesday promising to be more active.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like the winds for next 3 days will, in general, be in the light to moderate ranges.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: southern winds in the mid teens.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: mostly light SW for the 3-day forecast period.
The Baja side of the central Sea: light today from the east then low to mid teens for Monday and Tuesday.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Mostly light SW winds for the next 3 days.
The East Cape: light winds: today from the ENE, tomorrow SSW and Tuesday ENE again.
The Mexican Riviera: Cabo Corrienties north: light NW. South of Cabo Corrienties light southerlies for the 3-day forecast period.
