Looking down into the Sea this morning this image is showing the Sea to be free of any clouds. Using the 24 hour loop I can see there was some thunderbumper activity in the NW corner of Sonora last night with the remnant clouds moving across the Fence into the SE California deserts and the SW corner of Arizona.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera where we have a wanna-be. Actually it’s pretty sure to be a gonna-be. It is invest 95 Echo and is currently west of Acapulco moving around 15 mph north up the coast dropping lots of rain along the way. The models are showing it becoming a Tropical Depression probably today and a tropical storm tomorrow. Its progged to round the cape to the west on Thursday. Once around the cape the forecast track is further to the west than Ivo tracked. We’ll see? As I mentioned, It’s current speed is around 15mph which has it moving around 360 miles a day.
Looking out into the Atlantic for Tropical Waves I can see two rather far out at 23 and 43W. There is another much closer in the Caribbean this morning and is along the border of eastern Honduras and northeastern Nicaragua. Typically these lows that come into this region are big-time rain producers so we will be keeping this area on the back burner in our Tropical Kitchen for the next couple of days.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where again the Great Northwest will be having cloudy skies and showers today.
In northern California high pressure will be keeping the north state pleasant all week with temperatures along the coast in the high 60s and inland the mid 90s.
In southern California remnant moisture from brother Ivo along with possible a reinforcing surge of monsoonal moisture later this week will result in a threat of thunderbumpers for portions of the southland through the end of the week especially in the mountains in deserts and possibly over the inland valleys. Very heavy rain along with thunderbumpers may produce flash flooding in the extreme southland today.
Looking now over to the southwest where this image is showing remnant clouds moving north out of the state into Utah this morning. The Tucson area looks to be cloud free. The forecast is for the overall rain chances to decrease slightly today and tomorrow as drier attempts to settle over the region from the east. There is still enough residual moisture to support a few storms though. Thursday and Friday looks like a better chance of more extensive thunderbumper activity. Temperatures will remain below the seasonal normal through the end of the week.
Of Note: Las Vegas received 3 inches of rain yesterday causing down town flooding.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence right now it looks like clear skies and pleasant winds.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: mid teens for the 3-day forecast period. Today
north, tomorrow east, Thursday ESE.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: W or WSW today and tomorrow in the mid teens. Thursday around 22 from the SE.
The Baja side of the central Sea: mid teens today from the NE. tomorrow mid teens from the SE and Thursday around 20 from the SE.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands. Mid teens from the SE for the 3-day forecast period.
La Paz: mid teens from the NW today and tomorrow and then around 18 on Thursday from the south.
The East Cape: SE winds for the 3-day forecast period. Today and tomorrow moderate, Thursday around 26 from the SE.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan to Puerto Vallarta moderate mostly SW winds for the 3-day forecast period. Cabo Corrienties south there is a storm moving up the coast that is currently a bit west of Acapulco this morning. Wind and rain totals will depend on how close to shore it comes over the 3-day forecast period. Right now it looks like he mid to high 20s but don’t chisel that in stone yet. That’s a best guess.
