Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that big honk’n cell that was over Hermosillo yesterday morning cleared the Sea by mid morning. By mid afternoon another band of cells moving in from Texas into the Hermosillo area and built all night and is now just starting to dissipate. The system is in the NW corner of Sonora and clouds from it are spread out from the northern crossing to the Fence this morning.
To the south of the northern crossing the skies looks clear all the way to the cape this morning.
Looking now over to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera I can see a nice honker just off Cabo Corrienties this morning. Further south there are no thunderbumpers along the coast but there is a lot of cloudiness from storms earlier in the morning. Several locations along the Mexican Riviera reported around a quarter inch of rain from these storms since midnight.
There is some cloudiness on the Caribbean side of the Tehuantepec isthmus this morning that is coming from a Tropical Wave that is moving through the Yucatan channel this morning and had hooked up with a low there and has been designated a tropical depression. It is also generating some 25 knot winds in the Tehuantepec isthmus that should be there for a couple of days.
There are several Tropical Waves in the Atlantic of which one may make it to the Eastern Pacific basin. There is a Tropical Wave just passing over the Cape Verde islands that has been up graded to a tropical depression, so it won’t make it over here. The other one I just mentioned that’s in the Yucatan Channel this morning and has been designated as a tropical depression. Our only hope is one out around 54W and that’s 4-5 days away. So even though this is the start of our serious hurricane season for the Sea of Cortez it does not looks like we will have anything brewing in our Tropical Kitchen through the weekend. We’ll see?
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where at the top of this image I can see that a weak cold front will move across western Washington later today and tomorrow bringing a chance of showers through Saturday. An upper ridge will probably bring a return to fair summer weather Sunday through the middle of next week.
For California a high will reside over the state into Saturday with near normal temperatures along the coast and slightly above normal temperatures inland. A little coastal summer fog and warm and dry inland.
Looking now over to the southwest where most of the thunderbumper activity will take place on the south side of the Fence this week. There is a chance of isolated to scattered afternoon and evening thunderbumpers but in general dry weather will last another couple of days but by the end of this week into the weekend an increase in moisture will result in a better chance of showers across south-central and eastern Arizona. Sunday looks like a good day for some thunderbumper activity in the southwest.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence with the exception of the far northern Sea, the Sea should be seeing light to moderate northerlies over the next 3 days.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The Northern Sea, the far northern Sea: light southerlies. The bay of la area: light east or NE for the next 3 days.
The central Sea, Guaymas side: strong to 20NW for the next two days before becoming light again from the NW.
The Central Sea, Baja side: mid teens from the E or NE for the 3-day forecast period.
The southern Sea: The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Light mostly SE for the next 3 days.
The East Cape: light winds for the 3-day forecast period. Today from the NW, tomorrow and Saturday SE.
The Mexican Riviera: they will continue to have light to moderate SW winds for the 3-day forecast period.
