Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that most of the day the skies were clear over the Sea of Cortez yesterday. Late yesterday afternoon thunderbumper started to build in southern Sonora but it looks like they just could not get started. What few developed just moved some debris clouds out into mostly the southern Sea during the night and this morning. After the morning burn off it looks like the skies will be clear today in the Sea of Cortez.
Most of the convection was built over Chihuahua and moved up into New Mexico in the Albuquerque area last night.
I did note that south of La Paz in the mountains yesterday afternoon there looked to be some brief thunderbumper activity in that area.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera this morning. Much like the past several days most of the storms have been inland with only a few building along the coast. Most of the coast from Cabo Corrienties south is overcast this morning but no thunderbumpers showing up in this image.
The ITCZ/Monsoon trough is very active this morning with a solid line of thunderbumpers working from Central America out to around 140.
Looking in our Tropical Kitchen this morning we have invest 98 echo on a fast track out of our area. At 5am this morning it was 951 miles SW of the cape. The good folks at the National Hurricane Center are giving it a 30% chance of tropical development, but it looks like time is running out. If it does develop into a depression or a named storm it better happen today because it is moving into cooler water at around 15 mph.
Looking out into the Atlantic for signs of Tropical Waves that could sneak into the Eastern Pacific basin. I can see one way out by the Cape Verde Island and another passing over Cuba this. Not much convection with this one. The skies over Cuba are clear this morning.
So it looks like unless we see some development from 98 echo there probably won’t be in tropical activity in the basin over the weekend. We’ll see?
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where at the top of this image the Great Northwest will be dry today and tomorrow with a chance of some showers in the Cascades this weekend.
In northern California high pressure has moved in from the east and although this image is showing some cloudiness in northern California this morning, the forecast is for clear skies inland and dry weather to the end of the month. With the storm track well to the north.
In southern California they should see fair and slightly warmer weather through tomorrow as high pressure builds. On Friday some monsoonal moisture will move in from the southeast and bring a slight chance of thunderbumpers in the mountains. The weekend will be slightly cooler with a warming trend starting early next week as high pressure continues to build.
Looking now over to the southwest where there is lots of moisture in the region and the thunderbumpers in the afternoon and evening will continue. There is also a chance of thumpers developing any time during the day today and flash flood advisories have been issued for several counties and mountain area today.
There is a ridge shifting into a partial blocking position over and just south of the area by late in the weekend and early next week will probably mean hotter and relatively drier conditions. Not drying out completely but enough for less convection with the main moisture plume shifting through Chihuahua into New Mexico.
I also noted that Bob station was back on line at the mile high station in the sky this indicating .06 inches of rain in Hereford since midnight.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like our moderate SE winds will continue through the 3-day forecast period.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: light today then mid teens for Thursday and Friday.
The central Sea: Mid teens for the next 3 day.
The southern Sea: the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands moderate SW for around the island for the 3-day forecast period. La Paz moderate SW today and then light SE tomorrow and Friday.
The East Cape: light SW today then moderate SE for the next two days.
The Mexican Riviera: in general mostly light to moderate mostly SW or perhaps NW winds for the next 3 days.
