Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see the big honk’n low that has moved west from Texas and is now parked on this side of the Fence in Sonora has sparked considerable thunderbumper activity in Sonora for the last couple of days.
This morning both the IR image and Guasave radar are showing most of this mornings activity is again centered around Los Mochas.
The Sea is mostly overcast this morning with residual clouds from yesterday’s thunderbumpers on the mainland. The pattern has been for these clouds to dissipate by mid morning and then mostly sunshine for the Sea for the rest of the day.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera where most of the storms were over land and although there is some cloudiness along the coast this morning there is no thunderbumper activity.
There is nothing cooking in our Tropical Kitchen this morning. A harmless Tropical Wave came through the other day and is now slowly moving west along the ITCZ/Monsoon trough. Its current position is around 10N113W. There are currently three more Tropical Waves moving across the Atlantic and Caribbean that the closest should arrive early next week.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where high pressure parked over the Nevada plateau is keeping the west warm and dry. It’s expected to weaken starting on Sunday.
In northern California it will be a hot weekend with heat advisories being issued by the National Weather Service. Temperatures in the 112 ranges in the upper Sacramento Valley over the weekend.
In southern California the high pressure will keep warm weather across the region today then cooler temperatures are expected over the weekend with the advance of monsoonal moisture from the east into the region. Thunderbumper and showers are possible this weekend in the southland.
Looking now over to the southwest where water vapor imagery is showing that low spiraling on this side of the Fence dragging moisture from the south and east into the region. It is progged to start moving west today and continue into the weekend. This will create a very favorable pattern for more organized and sustained shower and thunderbumper activity over southeast Arizona and the California deserts this weekend. Thereafter a normal cycle of monsoonal thunderbumper activity will return for much of next week.
Well, that’s what is going on to north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the Sea will continue to have southerly winds over the 3-day forecast period. As advertized the winds will be in the high teens with the exception of the Baja side of the northern crossing which will see winds in the low 20s today.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: 14-17 for the next 3 days.
The central Sea, Guaymas side: to 19 knots today then mid teens over the weekend.
The Baja side: low 20s today then high teens over the weekend.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands: mostly mid teens from the SW for the next 3 days.
The East Cape: light to moderate SE winds for the 3-day forecast period.
The Mexican Riviera: Moderate NW or SW for the next 3 days.
