Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the Sonoran coast and deserts were very active with thunderbumpers all afternoon and the early morning hours. Since around midnight the activity has diminished considerably with no new thumpers building. Most of the Sea to the south of the middrifts is still blanketed with remnant clouds from storms early this morning though. It looks like it will be mid morning for all this to clear and another round to start this afternoon over in Sonora.
The 24 hour animated image is showing some thunderbumper activity in the central mountains in Baja Sur yesterday. We however did not see any here in the cove.
Looking now south to the west coast of Mexico where south of Cabo Corrienties the coast is clear to Central America this morning.
In the Gulf of Papagayo on the Caribbean side of the Tehuantepec isthmus there is a Tropical Wave that will be instrumental in the development of a weak surface low off the coast of Costa Rica over the next 48 hours. The main impact is expected to be an increase in the thunderbumper and shower activity along the ITCZ/Monsoon trough. No tropical development is forecast for this system. There are currently three Tropical Waves moving across the Atlantic and the Caribbean this morning. None should arrive in our hood until early next week.
So there continues to be nothing cooking in our Tropical Kitchen and it looks like that will continue throughout the weekend.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where high pressure that has moved in from the east is parked over the Nevada plateau and will be responsible for a short heat wave for the west coast. Inland Temperature in Sacramento will be around 104 this weekend and Redding to the north around 112 on Saturday.
In southern California the high pressure will keep temperatures above normal through Friday with just some coastal stratus during the night and morning hours. Saturday moisture will start to move in from the east bringing cloudy conditions and a good chance of some thunderbumper activity this weekend in the mountains and deserts. Early next week the coastal areas could see some showers and or thunderbumpers.
Looking now over to the southwest where this image is showing that not a lot of moisture moved up from Mexico over the past 24 hours. The low moving out of Texas will continue to move southwest and settle just on this side of the Fence in Sonora for the rest of the week. The low is currently over New Mexico and is forecast to make it to Sonora by this afternoon, thus keeping the chances of mainly afternoon and evening thunderbumpers every day.
Well, that’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the southern winds will continue for the 3-day forecast period and in general they will be brisk.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: light today, to 22 knots tomorrow and back to the moderate ranges on Saturday.
The central Sea: Ballpark 20 knots in the afternoon for the 3-day forecast period.
The southern Sea: mostly moderate SE winds for the next 3 days.
The East Cape: moderate southerlies today and tomorrow and then NE on Saturday.
The Mexican Riviera: light to moderate southerlies for the 3-day forecast period.
