Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that late yesterday afternoon thunderbumpers starting building over near Los Mochas. During the evening and morning hours these storms moved mostly north but several ventured into the Sea.
This morning at 5am there was a very large storm somewhat centered over Los Mochas and extending almost all the way to La Paz to the west and Hermosillo to the north.
At 6am the storm had diminished only slightly.
7am
North of the middrifts look to be clear this morning. The rest of the Sea is overcast.
There was also some thunderbumper activity in the hills to the west of the beaches on the Baja side. Dark bottomed clouds moved east out of the mountains late in the afternoon causing some 28 knot winds here in el Burro Cove for about an hour. Alas, no rain, not a drop.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera where I can see a squall just west of Cabo Corrienties this morning. From Manzanillo south the skies are clear to Central America this morning.
Not a lot of activity in the ITCZ/Monsoon trough this morning and there is nothing going on in our Tropical Kitchen this morning. Over in the Atlantic there are a couple of Tropical Waves headed our way. They are several days out so it will probably be next week before we see any more tropical activity in the Eastern Pacific basin.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where the Cascades will be getting a little rain today then high pressures will build over the Great Northwest bringing warming temperatures and mostly clear skies.
In northern California the low that has been off the west coast has lifted to the north overnight and a high will be moving in from the east and park over Nevada Friday into the weekend. The high will be bringing steadily warmer temperatures each day with widespread 90s and the lower 100s over the interior. Sacramento will see 105 and Redding around 110 this weekend.
In southern California the aforementioned high pressure will bring warm seasonal weather through Thursday. Monsoonal moisture will begin to increase on Friday through the weekend leading to an increasing chance of thunderbumpers mostly in the mountains and deserts.
Looking now over to the southwest where serious rain and winds have inundated southwest Arizona. Sixty mile per hour winds reported along with flash flooding keeping local fire departments busy rescuing folks caught in the floods. That low that is moving up from Texas will settle just on this side of the Fence for the rest of the week. This will allow the thunderbumpers to continue in the afternoon and evening hours each day.
So the monsoon is in full swing on the north side of the Fence. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like moderate winds for today and tomorrow then ballpark 20 knot southerlies for the entire Sea on Friday.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: moderate NW today, light NE tomorrow and then strong to 24 knots from the SE on Friday.
The central Sea, Sonoran side: light SW today, moderate southerlies tomorrow and then strong to 22 knot southerlies on Friday.
The Baja side: mid teens from the ENE today, high teens from the SE tomorrow then strong to 22 on Friday from the SE.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands: moderate SW today and tomorrow then light SE on Friday.
The East Cape: light to moderate SE winds over the 3-day forecast period.
The Mexican Riviera: mostly light to moderate SW winds for the next 3 days.
