Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see there has been considerable thunderbumper activity in Sonora since yesterday afternoon. Last evening there was a line of storms from just north of Mazatlan to the Fence. The south/north flow kept the storms moving north all night right up to and crossing the Fence around Tucson.
This morning there is considerable remnant clouds in the Sea from these storms. Not just that but there is considerable cloudiness moving east/west across Sonora and blanketing the northern Sea this am.
At 5am there was still a fairly large cell over Guaymas and Hermosillo. A search of the region showed no rain accumulations though.
So this morning the Sea has partial cloudiness or areas of cloudiness, some with dark bottomes, from the cape to San Filipe. The question is: Will it clear off this morning? I don’t think so. It looks like if there is any cleaning it could be this afternoon. We’ll see?
Looking south along the Mexican Riviera I can see that most of the thunderbumper activity has been east of the coast and there are currently no thumpers working along the coast, for the most part the coast is however cloudy this morning.
Nothing going on in our Tropical Kitchen this morning. We had a Tropical Wave emerge from the Gulf of Tehuantepec two days ago looking for something to stimulate and finding northing has quietly kept moving west. There are a couple more waves moving across the Atlantic this morning but they are several days away so it looks like no tropical activity until at least this weekend.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where high pressure is settling in over central Nevada and that will bring a significant warming trend to the Great Northwest and northern California for the rest of the week.
In southern California the weather influences will be coming from Texas. A low there this morning will start to moving pretty much right along the international Fence heading west. It will be packing a lot of moisture and flash flooding advisories are being posted along its path. It is expected to arrive on Thursday bringing showers and thunderbumper mainly to the mountains and deserts of southern California. In the meantime fair and seasonal weather can be expected for the southland.
Looking over to the southwest where the monsoon will be monsooning, bringing periods of heavy rain especially to areas near and east of Tucson today. It looks like this aforementioned system will park on the Mexican side of the Fence for the rest of the week allowing for afternoon and evening thunderbumpers to continue in southwest Arizona.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like the central Sea will be seeing moderate southerlies today and tomorrow then strong southerlies on Thursday…maybe.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: light to moderate southerlies for the next 3 days.
The central Sea: mostly SE for the next 3 days. Today and tomorrow light to moderate. Thursday strong to around 20 knots.
The southern Sea, San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands: light west or SW today moderate SE Wednesday and Thursday.
The East Cape: mostly E or SW for the next 3 days. Today light, tomorrow and Thursday moderate.
The Mexican Riviera: pretty much the same every day with light to moderate SW winds on tap for the 3-day forecast period.
