Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that several cells in the southern Sea took their time in crossing the Sea and exiting on the Pacific side yesterday morning. The Sea did not clear until late morning.
Yesterday afternoon and evening the thunderbumpers building along the Sonoran desert stayed on land for the most part with only some residual debris clouds showing up in the northern Sea this morning.
A 5am shot of the Sea showed some debris clouds moving off shore around Los Mochas into the Sea and the rest of the Sea to be pretty much free of any cloudiness.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera I can see two big thumpers. One is centered over Mazatlan and the other just to the north of Puerto Vallarta. The rest of the coast south to the Gulf of Tehuantepec is pretty much clear this morning.
This image is showing a lot of thunderbumper activity in the Tehuantepec isthmus and in the Gulf of Tehuantepec this morning. There is a Tropical Wave moving through the region this morning giving cause to all this convection.
It will emerge on the Pacific side looking for a lonely low to stimulate. The global models have been fairly consistent in showing a couple of low developing within the ITCZ/Monsoon trough in the next couple of days so it’s possible we could have something cooking in our Tropical Kitchen early next week.
There are also three more Tropical Waves headed our way. One is over the Cape Verde islands, another is in the central Atlantic at around 39W and the other is much closer in the Yucatan peninsula this morning.
However, this morning there is nothing cooking in the Tropical Kitchen.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where the Great Northwest will see sunshine today and tomorrow then a weak trough will bring some rain to the region on Tuesday evening into Wednesday.
Not much will change in Northern California until mid week when high pressure to the east will start to build which will bring on the next round of very hot weather to the west.
In southern California the chance of afternoon and evening thunderbumpers in the mountains are possible for the next couple of days with a better chance starting about mid week. In the meantime it will cool slightly waiting for the high to build which will bring on the heat for later next week.
Looking now over to the southwest where there will be limited thunderbumper activity in the region today. Tomorrow a weather system will move into Arizona from the east and bring lots of moisture and some slight cooling. The thunderbumpers will crank up again for all of next week.
The monsoon will be monsooning!
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence our moderate winds will continue for at least the next 3 days.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: light southerlies.
The central Sea, Sonoran side: light SW
The Baja side: moderate east or SE.
The southern Sea: the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands: light SE today, moderate SW tomorrow and Tuesday.
The East Cape: around 10-12 knots for the next 3 days. Today and tomorrow from the SE, Tuesday NE.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan moderate SW for the next 3 days. Puerto Vallarta light NW. South of Cabo Corrienties mostly light SW winds for the 3-day forecast period.
