Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that late yesterday afternoon a large cell developed along the Chihuahua/Sonoran border and started growing and moving west. It soon blanketed Hermosillo and just north of Guaymas. It continued to grow and move NW into the Sea and into SW Arizona during the night. The cell has split and is still in the northern end of the Sea with dark bottomed clouds extending south to Puerto Escondido this morning. The main body of the cell is still along the Sonoran coast.
The southern Sea looks to be clearing this morning. The southern crossing should be clear by early morning.
Former hurricane Erick, now a tropical Depression, skirted the cape yesterday and is now off the west coast of the Baja peninsula with most of the convection no longer visible, just some cloudiness in the region. It should be plutoed to a post tropical depression later today. In the colder waters it will be short lived.
The cape received about a half inch of rain as Erick passed and is still overcast this morning.
Looking now along the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera where a half dozen cells populate the region from around Puerto Vallarta south to Zihuatanejo this morning. So overcast skies south to the Gulf of Tehuantepec.
There is nothing else cooking in our Tropical Kitchen this morning. There are three Tropical Waves moving across the Atlantic this morning. One just leaving Africa, another around 28 and another near 55W.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where high pressure is keeping temperatures up along the west coast. Tomorrow a low will approach the northern California coast and bring a cooling trend. Tropical moisture moving up from the south will also bring a good chance of some thunderbumpers in the foothills and Sierras later this week.
In southern California the high pressure aloft will bring another hot day today. It should cool a bit tomorrow through Friday as the high weakens. Moisture aloft will increase later in the week and bring a chance of thunderbumpers in the mountains and deserts Thursday through Saturday.
Looking now over to the southwest where triple digit temperatures in the afternoon continue. High pressure will be centered near the 4 Corners region all week. Thunderbumper coverage will increase this week, backing off a bit over the weekend then picking up again nest week.
Well, that’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like we will have one more day of ballpark 20 knot winds in many locations.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: ESE. Today 17-19, tomorrow and Thursday mid teens.
The central Sea: ESE. Mostly in the mid teens for the 3-day forecast period.
The southern Sea: the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands: moderate Southerlies in the 8-15 knot ranges.
The East Cape: SE. Light to moderate for the 3-day forecast period.
The Mexican Riviera: in general moderate NW winds for the next 3 days.

Mr. Gary I´ve seen your blog long ago but I see u have not brushed up on your Geopolitical field.
Is been now a while since the name Sea of Cortez was changed to Golf of California. Plz take note!
If u take time to read history u would understand why the name Cortez does not have a good tone among mexicans.
Thank u
