Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that there has been a lot of thunderbumper activity over in Sonora in the past 24 hours. Late yesterday afternoon there were a number of fairly large cells over the state. A good sized thunderbumper was pretty much directly over Hermosillo last night and extended west toward the coast and this image is showing it bringing some rain to the Guaymas/ San Carlos area. The system then moved out into the Sea weakening and finally blew out about half way across. This morning there are numerous remnant clouds in the northern crossing region.
Besides that the Sea appears to be clear this morning.
Looking south now to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera where up until around midnight it was fairly calm along the coast. Thunderbumpers started building from Acapulco to Los Mochas and have continued until now.
Looking now in out Tropical Kitchen this morning I can see that sister Dalila now around 319 miles SW of the cape and moving slowly west. She is less defined this morning and will continue to weaken as she approaches cooler water.
Right behind her is invest 97 Echo just west of Acapulco this morning. I’d think that today they will upgrade this system to a tropical storm and the name will be Erick. She will be moving north up the coast faster than Dalila can exit the area and although it’s a bit unusual they could merge into one storm. The forecasters are being a bit vague as to what will happen when Erick meets Delila. Lots of talk about it yesterday but none this morning. So now it looks like these two will be keeping their distance. We’ll see?
Meantime as Dalila moves SW past the cape there could be some showers even some thunderbumpers in the cape region. Certainly some cloudiness.
Looking out into the Atlantic I can see three Tropical Waves moving pretty much along the ITCZ/Monsoon trough this morning.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where more warm and hot weather is in store for the west today as that dome of high pressure is still in charge of the weather in the west. Triple digit temperatures will be reached from Washington to the California deserts today and over 110 in the deserts in the southwest.
There is relief in site. Tomorrow a low will form off the California coast low and put pressure on the high to move off to the east over the weekend. By Friday cool marine air will start to filter inland with temperatures 10-15 cooler than today. The coastal areas only about 5 degrees.
Looking now over to the southwest I can see that they will continue to see afternoon monsoonal thunderbumper activity into early next week. Today and tomorrow will continue to see gusterly winds and blowing dust but this will transition to more of a heavy rain threat over the upcoming weekend.
That’s what is happening to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like most of the Sea will be seeing ballpark 20 knot winds today.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: all from the SE. Strong today, moderate tomorrow and then light on Saturday.
The central Sea: Ballpark 20 knots today, a bit less tomorrow and quite a bit less on Saturday.
The southern Sea: light to moderate SW winds for the next 3 days.
The East Cape: light to moderate SE for the next 3 days.
The Mexican Riviera: light to moderate SE over the 3-day forecast period.
