Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see the there has been some cloudiness in the Sea overnight. These clouds have come from the mainland and are the remnant clouds from numerous thunderbumpers working over Sonora early last night and this morning. This image is showing a number of them still have abundant moisture in them so sprinkles are certainly a possibility this morning, especially in the central Sea. Here in the cove at 4:30 this morning we had about 4 minutes of big drops falling then it was over.
Both the northern Sea and around the cape look to be clear this morning.
Looking now south to the west coast of Mexico where there are some clouds moving in from the west into the southern crossing and the Puerto Vallarta area this morning. Most of the moisture is gone from these clouds but that area too could see some light sprinkles this morning.
Further south most of the thunderbumpers during the night have taken place over land and the coast is fairly clear this morning with only a few locations seeing some cloudiness.
The Tehuantepec continues to see overnight thumpers working but the daytime winds continue to be in the light to moderate ranges.
Taking a look now in our Tropical Kitchen this morning. That low, invest 93, has pretty much dissipated. It is not longer showing up on the forecast maps.
We do have a Tropical Wave entering the hood. It is crossing Panama and is around 82W this morning and a bit south of the ITCZ/Monsoon trough at around 09N this morning. It’s packing a lot of moisture and would be a likely candidate for tropical development if there was a lonely low out there to stimulate. Fortunately or unfortunately there is nothing at this time to tickle the fancy of this Tropical Wave.
There is another wave out in the Atlantic around 53W moving at around 10 knots. We may have to wait and see what this wave can make happen. It’s around 4 days out.
New to the Sonrisa webpage is a tropical wave tracking page. Check it out, Sonrisanet.org.
Ok, that’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where at the top of this image I can see where that low that was parked over Vancouver Island for a couple of days has now started to slip south and is now starting to move east across Oregon. In the meantime the Seattle area will continue to see unsettled weather through tomorrow. Another low is forecast to move into the region this weekend.
For northern California as this low moves east today a brief high will fill in warming things up a bit through tomorrow, then as I just mentioned another low system is progged to move into the NW this weekend and that will keep the lid on the temperatures into next week.
In southern California they can expect June Gloom for the rest of the week with the overnight fog retreating to be only partially clear at the beaches in the afternoons. Temperatures will be in the seasonal normal ranges into the weekend. It’s possible that the deserts and mountains will see some periods of gusterly winds as well.
Looking now over to the southwest where under high pressure the forecast into mid next week will be hot and dry. There is a slight chance of some thunderbumper activity to take place in the higher elevations east of Tucson, close to the New Mexico border, this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like mostly moderate SE wind for the 3-day forecast period. The exception might be the northern crossing.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: light to moderate SE winds for the 3-day forecast period.
The central Sea, northern crossing: 14-18 today and tomorrow on the Baja side and around 20 in the center today. Friday pleasant moderate southerlies.
The rest of the central Sea: Santa Rosalia to Puerto Escondido moderate SE winds for the next 3 days.
The southern Sea: the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands: light to moderate WSW over the 3-day forecast period.
The East Cape: light winds for the 3-day forecast period. Today from the NE, tomorrow ESE and Saturday east.
The Sonoran passage: light to moderate SW winds over the 3-day forecast period.
The Mexican Riviera: pretty much the same thing: light to moderate SW winds over the 3-day forecast period.
