Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the Sea has been cloud free for the past 24 hours.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico I can see that from around Zihuatanejo south well into Central America there is considerable thunderbumper activity along the coast and in some places extending inland especially in the Gulf of Tehuantepec this morning.
Also there will be a brief wind event in the Tehuantepec starting tomorrow morning with Northern winds in the 20-25 knot ranges with seas to around 8 feet. This event is attributed to two developing lows embedded within the ITCZ/Monsoon trough this morning.
So looking in our Tropical Kitchen this morning I can see that one of these low has been designated as invest 91 Echo. Even though environmental conditions appear to be favorable for both these systems for tropical development both have a low chance of becoming a tropical storm in the next 48 hours. So they will slowly move along the zone for the next couple of days in warm waters and any development will probably happen early next week.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking north now to the west coast of America where the storm door is open for the Great Northwest with system after system bringing rain to the low lands and snow to the higher elevations of the Cascades. Rain is forecast for the entire Memorial Day weekend.
One of these systems is forecast to drop south on Memorial Day into northern California bringing cooler weather, some rain and high elevation snow to the northern Sierras.
In southern California low pressure will remain near the coast into next week. Temperatures will continue to be a little below average. Coastal fog will extend inland a ways and it will remain gusterly in the mountains and deserts in the afternoons.
Looking now over to the southwest where warm and dry conditions will persist across the region through the Memorial Day weekend. It will continue to be breezy in the afternoons through Tuesday, then on Wednesday a fast moving system will bring some cloudiness, a bit more wind and cooler than normal temperatures. In the wake of this system later in the week the southwest should see a warming trend into next weekend.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the fence it looks like at least 3 more days of light to moderate winds.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea will continue to see light to moderate southerlies for the next 3 days.
The Central Sea: mid teens from the ENE for the 3-day forecast period.
The Southern Sea: The San Lorenzo channel, La Paz and the nearby islands: light SE today then low teens from the NE tomorrow then mid teens from the west on Monday.
The East Cape: Light NE today, then light to moderate NW on Sunday and Monday.
The Sonoran passage: light to moderate WSW for the 3-day forecast period.
The Mexican Riviera: mid teens for the next 3 days, mostly from the SW.
Temperatures continue to be in the high 80s to the low 90s.
