Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that a few whispys passed over the central Sea yesterday. Interesting; following them in the 24 hour loop they ended up over Texas producing some good sized thunderbumpers in central Texas last evening and this morning. This morning the Sea looks to be cloud free.
Looking over to the west coast of the Baja peninsula there is a fairly thick marine layer and coastal clouds that extend inland about half way across the peninsula this morning.
Looking now south to along the west coast of Mexico I can see that most of the coast is clear until you get to around Acapulco and the Gulf of Tehuantepec where there looks to be rather heavy thunderbumper activity in and around the Gulf this morning.
Strengthening high pressure in the Gulf of Mexico will produce a brief wind event across the Gulf of Tehuantepec this weekend with winds in the 25 knot ranges. The winds are being supported by a developing low within the ITCZ/Monsoon trough.
Looking out into the Eastern Pacific basin and along the ITCZ/Monsoon trough I can see there is pretty much a solid line of thumpers working from Central America to around 150W this morning.
Looking now into our Tropical Kitchen where that low I just mentioned has a pretty good chance of developing into our next tropical storm, probably by Sunday. It will mostly likely stay close to the ITCZ/Monsoon trough where the warm waters are now and mosey west during its duration next week. We’ll see?
Taking a quick look around for any Tropical Waves, the only one I can see is one in the western Gulf of Mexico and is extending inland into South America around 5N this morning.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where I can see a big honk’n low swirling over Washington and Oregon this morning. This system continues to bring rain to the lowlands and snow to the higher elevations of the cascades. It’s forecast to weaken on Sunday but hang around into early next week.
Another front is on its heels and this system is progged to move south on Monday and bring rain to northern California through Tuesday then exit to the east by Wednesday.
For southern California it will remain dry through the Memorial Day weekend with gusterly winds in the mountains and deserts. The coastal areas will continue to see May Grey with low clouds and fog extending into the inland valleys.
On Tuesday through early Wednesday a stronger trough of low pressure moving through could bring a chance of rain to the southland.
Looking now over to the southwest where it will remain dry, albeit a bit cooler and breezy through mid next week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the fence it looks like the next two days will continue to see these light to moderate southerlies in the central and southern seas. The northern Sea will see light to moderate southerlies for the 3-day forecast period.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The central Sea: moderate winds for the next 3 days. Today and tomorrow ESE and on Sunday swing to the ENE.
The southern Sea: mostly light winds. For the San Lorenzo channel, La Paz and the nearby islands SE today, Westerly tomorrow, and NE on Sunday.
The East Cape: light E or SE today, moderate NE tomorrow and NW on Sunday.
The Sonoran passage: moderate SW today and tomorrow then high teens from the NW on Sunday.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan moderate SW for the 3-day forecast period. The Puerto Vallarta area: mostly NW for the next 3 day and south of Cabo Corrienties mid teens from the SW for the 3-day forecast period.
Temperatures will be about the same as yesterday and be in the high 80s to the low 90s.
Tonight is the official full moon and it will rise just before dark. Tomorrow the almost full moon will see larger and rise just after dark. Give it a howl both days. It’s good for the soul.
