Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see in general the skies have been clear over Baja for the past 24 hours.
The cape area has continued to see straggler bands of mostly whispys passing over. These are coming from the remnants of tropical storm Alvin which is out around 116W this morning.
This is not exactly a plume but scattered bands of clouds emanating from this area. The 24 hour loop is showing these bands passing over the Mexican Riviera as well.
Alvin is still in our Tropical Kitchen and is showing some signs of redeveloping; About a 30 percent chance. Even if he does he is heading into a harsher environment to support any tropical activity. But we’ll continue to watch Alvin as he moves along 12W out into the Eastern Pacific basin.
Back on the mainland, the Tehuantepec is forecast to continue to have mostly light northerlies over the 3-day forecast period.
I don’t want to steal Bob, (DLH) smoke by reporting the “Sky is Falling” in La Paz, but briefly a large fiery meteorite passed over La Paz yesterday morning causing a loud sonic boom, setting off car alarms and many phone calls to the police. Also noted was an increased attendance in the local churches directly after the event.
Anyway that’s what is happening in our hood. So looking now north to the west coast of America where folks in the Great Northwest can put away their umbrellas for today and tomorrow, but keep them handy for the rest of next week.
In northern California high pressure off the west coast and lows in the Great Basin are giving cause to very gusterly conditions in the Sacramento Valley and the California delta again today.
In southern California high pressure in the Pacific will expand over California though Tuesday bringing drier and warmer conditions and a shallower marine layer. By Wednesday a cold low will have moved down from the Gulf of Alaska and nudge the high off and cool off the coast again and bring a return of the gusterly westerly winds in the mountains and deserts into next weekend.
Looking now over to the southwest where they can expect dry conditions during the upcoming week. A gradual warming will also prevail with above normal daytime highs to occur during the middle and later part of the week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the northern Sea will continue to see mostly light southerlies over the 3-day forecast period and the rest of the Sea moderate ENE for the next 3 days.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The central Sea: ENE except the Puerto Escondido area which both my models are again saying SSE or ESE like it did yesterday however the moderate winds came from the NW in that area yesterday. This is driving me coo-coo. This has been going on for a week.
The southern Sea: the San Lorenzo channel, La Paz and the nearby islands: Most light to moderate SW winds for the 3-day forecast period.
The East Cape: mid teens today from the NW, tomorrow, light SE, and on Tuesday light ENE.
The Sonoran passage: mid teens from the SW for the 3-day forecast period.
The Mexican Riviera: moderate NW north of Cabo Corrienties. Light to moderate SW to the south of the cape with the exception of around Manzanillo which will continue to see SW winds in the high teens for the next 3 days.
Temperature-wise, the overnight lows and the daytime highs have dipped a bit in the past 24 hours, however we should see about the same temperatures today as yesterday with today’s highs in the high 80s to perhaps the low 90s.
