Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the cape region has had a few whispys passing over it periodically over the past 24 hours but that was it for any clouds in the Sea of Cortez or the Baja peninsula.
The Mexican Riviera also has had a few passing whispys pass over emanating from a very active ITCZ/Monsoon trough. The flow in the basin has picked up a bit and those clouds being generated along the zone are drifting NE toward the Mexican mainland. They looks like mostly cirrus and the scattered plumes ranges from around the cape to around Zihuatanejo.
The Tehuantepec is quiet this morning with light winds in the forecast for today and tomorrow then picking up to around 25 knots on Friday.
Looking out into the Eastern Pacific basin this morning the water vapor imagery is showing the strong high pressure off the west coast keeping any weather moving across the Pacific moving well to the north into British Columbia.
That’s what is going on in our hood, so looking now north to the west coast of America of America where today is sort of the lull before the storm. No rain is in the forecast but very high pressure will start building the Great Basin this evening and most of the basin will have bar reading in the 1030 to 1040 ranges by tomorrow afternoon. This will result in Sana Ana Winds in the La Basin and extreme southern California tomorrow. Strong winds in SW Arizona tomorrow through early Friday morning.
Then over the weekend a low pressure trough will gradually deepen over the west relaxing the gradient and bring general cooling to the region.
Looking now over to the southwest where those lows moving through the Great Basin today will bring cooler temperatures to the region today. Then that cold front moving southward through Arizona tonight will produce windy conditions through Thursday morning mainly down the Colorado River Valley and across South Central Arizona. This weekend a low will strengthen along the west coast cooling off the southwest a bit and bringing what right now looks like a good chance of some showers to the region early next week. We’ll see?
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the fence most of the Sea will see light to moderate NE winds today. Tomorrow the winds will come from the NW and for the northern and central Sea be in the 30 knot ranges.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea today: light to moderate NE today. 33-35 knot NW tomorrow then back to the moderate ranges Friday afternoon from the NW.
The central Sea: Low to mid teens today picking up to the 33-35 knot ranges from the NW tomorrow then on Friday the winds will continue to be from the NW but in the mid teens.
The southern Sea, Puerto Escondido south to La Paz: light to moderate today with a southern component. Picking up to the high teens tomorrow from the NW then on Friday it’s back to the mid teens from the SW.
The East Cape: 19-21 today and tomorrow then on Friday the mid teens from the SW.
The Sonoran passage: from Mazatlan to around half way, light to moderate SW winds over the 3-day forecast period. From Half way north along the passage moderate WSW today, mid 20s tomorrow from the NW and then on Friday it’s back to the moderate SW again.
The Mexican Riviera: Moderate winds over the 3-day forecast period with NW winds to the north of Cabo Corrienties and SW winds to the south of Cabo Corrienties.
So today looks like a good day to find a hidee-hole, stow loose articles on deck, put an extral hitch on the dingy painter and find a good book for tomorrow.
Temperatures dipped a bit yesterday and last night. Today’s highs should be in the low to mid 80s.

73s Y’all
