Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that a few whispys have drifted over the northern Sea and central sea in the past 24 hours but that is it for any cloudiness in the Sea. This image is showing some lingering whispys in the central Sea this morning though. They could be gone by sunrise though.
Looking south I can see that a very active ITCZ/Monsoon trough is sending several bands of what looks like cirrus, whispys, over the Mexican Riviera from around Cabo Corrienties south to the Guatemalan border. It looks like this condition will last all day.
The winds funneling through the Chivela pass continue be bring almost gale force winds to the Gulf to Tehuantepec this morning and it looks like this wind event will last until tomorrow. Seas to 11 feet are expected today.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America of America where not much is going on there due to high pressure off the west coast. Spring like conditions in most locations today.
In southern California a rather weak low moved up from off the northern Baja coast yesterday and brought a few light showers and a reported thunderbumper to the southland before starting to move east last night. Late Thursday and Friday high pressure will rebuild over southern California bringing a mild warming trend.
Looking now over to the southwest where that Baja low will quickly move through the southwest today resulting in cooler and breezy conditions. There is a slight chance of an early afternoon shower mainly over the mountains as this system passes through. Rapid clearing is expected this evening with warmer temperatures forecast starting Friday into next week. They could reach the 100 degree mark this weekend.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like the next two days will see moderate NW winds along the Sonoran coast and moderate NE winds on the east coast of Baja. Saturday the winds will pick up to the 18-20 knot ranges in the central Sea then it looks like back to the moderate ranges for next week.
Here are the winds details for the 3-day forecast period.
The Northern Sea: moderate NE winds today and tomorrow and NW on Saturday.
The Central Sea: Moderate NE winds today and tomorrow then strong NW winds on Saturday.
The Southern Sea from Puerto Escondido south to La Paz and the islands south of La Paz.: light to moderate ENE today, then moderate Friday and Saturday.
The Sonoran passage from Mazatlan to Guaymas: Today: light WNW from Mazatlan to around Los Mochas then moderate WNW the rest of the passage. Friday and Saturday 18-20 NW for most of the passage.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan south to Cabo Corrienties moderate NW for the 3-day forecast period. Cabo Corrienties south Moderate SW winds for the next 3 days.
The Outside Passage: The next 3 days from the cape to Abreojos ballpark 20k winds. Cedros island north today moderate NW winds then Friday and Saturday the NW winds pick up to the 18-24K ranges for most of the passage.
