.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the moisture plume moving up from the ITCZ/Monsoon trough will still be sending mostly whispys from around Puerto Vallarta south to Acapulco this morning and probably most of the day. It looks like the plume is drying up, so today could be the last of this plume. We’ll see?
The Sea of Cortez is pretty much cloud free this morning.
There continues to a big honk’n Tehuantepecker brewing in the Gulf of Tehuantepec this morning with storm force winds surging through the Chivela pass into the Gulf and downstream with seas to 19 feet out to around 95N. It is forecast to diminish to a Gale by this afternoon through tomorrow night into Saturday morning. By Saturday evening the event should be over with moderate winds in the forecast though next Tuesday.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America were northern Washington continues to get wet with one storm moving though and another right behind it. Flood advisories have been posted on many streams and rivers. The rain will continue through the end of the week.
Feeding these storms is moisture plume, the northern jet which is picking up tropical moisture from the western Pacific and transporting it all the way to Washington and British Columbia.
High pressure off the west coast has been keeping the plume to the west of California. The high is forecast to start to slowly move east today and that would open the storm door for the rest of the west coast by mid next week.
Meantime unseasonably warm temperatures and dry conditions throughout the weekend for the west coast.
Southern California will cool off a bit due to the heavy fog bank off the coast. This image is showing the bank to extend south to inside of Turtle Bay and into the Laguna region to the south including Scammon’s Lagoon.
Looking now over to the southwest where the warming trend will continue through tomorrow with record high temperatures in the 90s expected across the lower deserts. A modest cooling trend will begin during the weekend however temperatures will remain above average through at least mid next week.
Well, that’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence that low that is and has been meandering over the Sierra Madre Occidentals will finally dissipate by tomorrow relaxing the gradient between there and the 1028 high in the Pacific and this blow in the central Sea will be over.
Starting tomorrow and through the weekend and into next week is sure looks like spring could be springing. We’ll see.
Meantime we have one more day of moderately strong winds in the central Sea.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: moderate NW today and light tomorrow and Saturday.
The Central Sea: The upper teens today then low teens Friday and Saturday.
The southern Sea: Puerto Escondido to La Paz, mid teens for the 3-day forecast period with Saturday’s winds having a southern flavor. The East Cape light northerlies for the next 3 days.
The Sonoran coast from Mazatlan to Guaymas: Guaymas will see ballpark 20K winds today but the rest of the passage should be light to moderate for the next 3 days.
The Mexican Riviera light to moderate winds over the 3-day forecast period with NW winds north of Cabo Corrienties and SW winds to the south of the cape.
Temperatures have continued to rise and most locations in the Sea were in the 80s yesterday afternoon. Today we should see another couple of degrees of warming.
73s Y’all
