Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that convection building along the ITCZ/Monsoon trough between 95W and 115W is drifting toward the Riviera this morning. The plume extends from around Puerto Vallarta to Manzanillo. It is a mix of multi-level clouds so they may see a fluffy or two along with mostly whispys today.
The Sea of Cortez looks to be cloud free this morning. The only weather in our hood is in the Gulf of Tehuantepec.
There are currently gale force winds howling through the Chivela pass into the Gulf. Seas building to 11 feet. These winds are expected to persist through late tomorrow. A brief surge of storm force winds is possible on Thursday morning with seas building to 19 feet. Downstream out to around 96W should see gale force winds on Thursday night. The winds in the Gulf are expected to remand at gale force through mid day Saturday.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where in this image I can see the northern jet passing over Hawaii and transporting tropical moisture to northern Washington this morning. This and a warm front moving into the region will keep Washington wet for most of the week.
Of note: The Seattle forecasters call this moisture plume the Pineapple Express as it is just like the southern jet originating in the tropical waters of the western Pacific.
The rest of the west coast, under high pressure, will have unseasonably warm temperatures moving close to record highs this week. Some cooling is expected this weekend as the high weakens.
Southern California can expect some gusterly condition all week. And that’s it for the coast.
Looking now over to the southwest where they too can expect record or near record high temperatures for portions of Arizona later in the week, topping out in the low to mid 90s on Thursday and Friday. Slight cooling is expected for the following week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like we will have two more days of winds in the 20 knot ranges in the Sea.
The gradient between the Pacific ridge and a trough of low pressure meandering along the Sierra Madre Occidental range will finally relax on Thursday and then Friday into the weekend look like very pleasant weather will return to the Sea of Cortez.
Meantime, here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: Brisk NW winds to around 19 knots for the next 3 days.
The central Sea: From san Francisquito bay to Concepción Bay ballpark 20+ today. Diminishing to around 20 tomorrow and then mid teens on Thursday.
The southern Sea: Puerto Escondido sort of on the cusp for these 20 knot winds should see around 20 today, mid teens tomorrow and low teens on Thursday. La Paz mid teens today, low teens tomorrow and light NW winds on Thursday. The East Cape will continue to see 20 knot winds today, a bit less tomorrow and the mid teens on Thursday.
The Sonoran coast from Mazatlan to Guaymas mid teens half way then 19-24 as you get closer to Guaymas today. A bit less tomorrow and then light winds on Thursday.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan mid teens for the next 3 days. Puerto Vallarta to Cabo Corrienties light mostly NW and south of Cabo Corrienties light to moderate SW winds for the 3-day forecast period.
