.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that without the steerage of a jet stream the clouds in the Eastern Pacific basin are drifting with the normal west/east flow in the basin toward the cape area again this morning. The plume approaching the cape is not as thick as yesterday so it looks like mostly whispys passing over this morning.
La Paz south the skies look to be mostly clear this morning.
Looking over at the Mexican Riviera I can see that they too will be seeing mostly whispys from Mazatlan south to around Manzanillo today.
Looking south to the Gulf of Tehuantepec this morning where the Gulf will see light winds over the weekend then the next Tehuantepecker event should start around midnight on Monday with minimal gale force winds and continue through sunrise on Thursday.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where a Pacific storm has exited California and moving into Arizona this morning opening the door for high pressure to build in from the Pacific. There are still some lingering showers in extreme southern California that will end this morning. Under building high pressure California is forecast to start a warming trend tomorrow and be dry through most of the work week.
Looking over to the southwest were that storm will slowly move out of the state by late today but with lingering showers continuing over most of Arizona through this evening. Scattered mountain snow is also expected with snow levels near 4000 feet. Clearing is expected late tonight and tomorrow. Strong high pressure is forecast to build over the region next week resulting in a strong warming trend by Tuesday.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence today will be the last day of moderate winds for the next three days. A trough of low pressure will deepen over southern Mexico and tighten the gradient between the Sea and the Great Basin giving cause to NW winds increasing to 15-20 tonight and 20-25 by tomorrow afternoon then decrease to around 20 knots on Monday.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
For the northern Sea: 12-15 today picking up to the low 20s tomorrow and Monday from the NW.
The Central Sea: Mid teens today from the NE and 26-30 NW on the Baja side and the high 20s on the Sonoran coast on Sunday and Monday from the NW.
The southern Sea: mid to high teens today from the NE. The low to mid 20s on Sunday and Monday from the NW.
The outside passage strong winds all along the outside today in the 21-26k ranges a bit more at Pt. San Quinten. A bit less tomorrow then less than 20 on Monday.
The Sonoran coast from Mazatlan to Guaymas: today and tomorrow mostly in the high 20s from the NW to just short of Guaymas. diminishing to the high teens on Monday.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan to Cabo Corrienties today 17-23 today from the NW. Mid teens tomorrow and low to mid teens on Monday. South of Cabo Corrienties light WSW winds for the 3-day forecast period.
Yesterday afternoon around 2 O’clock that cold front passed through the Sea. The bar dropped from around 1015 to 1013 and the temperatures dipped from 80 degrees to 70 in about an hour.
Last night the overnight lows across the board were 10-15 degrees cooler then the night before.
Today’s highs should be in the mid to high 70s for most of the Sea.
