.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the low moving down the coast of Southern California has pushed the moisture plume south and the plume is now over the cape region and south to around Manzanillo. There is a lot of dark bottomed clouds in this plume and I’d expect that some locations could see some sprinkles today.
To the north of La Paz the Sea looks to be pretty much clear of that heavy overcast that we have had for the past two days. Although we could see some very high whispys in the central Sea today and It looks like there are a few lingering fluffys hear and there in the central Sea but that’s about it.
Looking south to the Gulf of Tehuantepec where that Tehuantepecker is now over and the winds in the Gulf are currently in the 20-25 knot ranges and will diminish becoming light and variable by late today. The next wind event in the Gulf will begin on Monday however the winds are forecast to max out at around 30 knots.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where a strong low and associated cold front have been moving down the California coast for the past 24 hours.
In Northern California there are some lingering showers in the valleys and snow showers in the Sierras that should end today.
This image is showing the core of the low off the central California coast. It is forecast to continue to bring rain to the LA basin today and mountain snow though this evening.
Further south in extreme southern California the storm will linger over southern California today before moving inland and heading east tomorrow. They can expect rain, heavy at times, gusterly conditions and snow to the mountains and California deserts. The southland should start to dry out on Sunday
Looking now over to the southwest where a major change in their weather is in store for most of the state starting today. Rain will start from the west and move east during the day bringing colder temperatures, and snow above 5000 feet. Tomorrow it will be even colder as the front moves through. The skies should start to clear late Saturday night into Sunday with a return of the warm temperatures next week.
That is what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like the northern and central Sea will see sunshine today. The cape and most of the Riviera will be under that heavy moisture plume.
That Pacific storm that is now moving into southern California will bring some rain to northern Baja this morning. The tail end of the front will swing through northern and central Baja today and could bring a sprinkle or two as far south as Santa Rosalia at the front swings through. As the front does swing though we will see the temperatures drop as much as 10 degrees from yesterday afternoon.
Wind-wise ballpark the northern and central Sea will see around 20 knot winds this afternoon.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: SW today in the high 20s. Tomorrow light NW and Sunday back to around 20 know NW winds.
The central Sea: Generally in the mid teens except for the Pt. Concepción area where they will see around 20 this afternoon. About the same tomorrow and then picking up to around 30 on Sunday.
The southern Sea: the La Paz area should be seeing some rather strong Cormwells starting in the early evenings. During the day it looks like light NW winds today, moderate tomorrow and then crank up to the mid 20s on Sunday.
The outside passage: ballpark mid 20s for most of the passage today. Around Cedros Island and Pt. San Quinten the winds will be close to 30 for the next 3 days. With that exception the rest of the passage should be back to less than 20 on Sunday.
The Sonoran coast from Mazatlan to Guaymas: Mid teens today from the NW. Ballpark around 20 tomorrow and Sunday.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan to Cabo Corrienties mid teens today. 16-21 tomorrow and the high teens on Sunday from the NW. South of Cabo Corrienties light to moderate SW winds over the 3-day forecast period.
