Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the moisture plume that is moving north off the ITCZ/Monsoon trough has picked up strong easterly winds in the basin and the leading edge of the plume is now starting to spread a mix of whispys and fluffys over the area between San Francisquito bay and Santa Rosalia this morning. It looks like the plume will swing further south during the day so the central Sea will also be seeing this mix of these mult-level clouds.
Looking south the entire west coast of Mexico is clear this morning and abundant sunshine is in their forecasts.
Further south the Gulf of Tehuantepec had storm force winds yesterday, and today the winds are forecast to be in the gale force ranges and diminish to below gale force this evening. Then another cold front moving across the western Gulf of Mexico will bring a new surge of northerly winds through the Chivela pass into the Gulf around midnight tomorrow night increasing rapidly to gale force early on Wednesday morning. This winds event is forecast to last until Thursday.
Sea will build to around 16 feet during these wind events and downstream the winds and the swell will extend several hundred miles out into the Eastern Pacific basin.
That’s what is gong on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where in general the west coast is clear and dry this morning, but that will change by tomorrow. In this image I can see a big honkn’ low swirling about a thousand miles west of northern California this morning. This Pacific storm is forecast to arrive in northern California tomorrow morning and impact the region at least through Friday. The Sierras will start to see snow by midday tomorrow. The trans-Sierra passes will see the heavy snow all day Wednesday. Down in the valleys rain, perhaps a thunderbumper or two is expected during the week.
In southern California that cold front will start to affect the southland Wednesday and bring moderate rain and snow to the mountains through Saturday morning.
Looking now over to the southwest where it will remain warm and dry until late in the week when that Pacific storm arrives bringing a good chance of valley rain and mountain snow into the weekend.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the Sea of Cortez should be seeing moderate northerlies over the 3-day forecast period.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: 16-18 knot NE today around the Bay of La area. Tomorrow around 10 and Wednesday less than 10 knot winds.
The central Sea from San Francisquito south to Puerto Escondido moderate northerlies mostly in the mid teens for the next 3 days.
The southern Sea: La Paz high teens today, mid teens tomorrow and less than 10 on Wednesday. The East Cape region less than 10 today around 16-17 knots tomorrow and then 10-12 knot winds on Wednesday.
The outside passage: moderate winds in the mid to upper teens today and tomorrow a bit more on Wednesday and around the points today.
Mazatlan to Guaymas: light to moderate today for the entire stretch. Tomorrow the high teens and Wednesday the mid teens mostly from the WNW.
The Mexican Riviera Mazatlan and the Puerto Vallarta area 13-15 today and tomorrow, light NW winds around Cabo Corrienties for the next 3 days. South of Cabo Corrienties light to moderate WSW over the 3-day forecast period.
Overnight lows dipped a bit in most locations in the northern and central Sea however today’s highs should be about the same as yesterday.
