.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the southern jet is still strong and transporting a lot of clouds toward the Baja peninsula again this morning giving us those postcard sunrises. The IR imagery is showing most of the moisture in the plume has dried up by the time it reached the peninsula and this morning I can see broken bands of mostly whispys passing over the Sea, mainly in the central Sea.
Looking south I can see a few stringers passing over Puerto Vallarta and Cabo Corrienties area but sunshine will be the order of the day for the Riviera today.
Further south the honeymoon will be over tomorrow for the Gulf of Tehuantepec with a significant winds event on tap for this weekend. First gale force winds on Saturday and Storm force winds on Sunday.
Looking west there is still a lot of convection building along the ITCZ/Monsoon trough mainly from around 120 out to 140.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where the northern jet is feeding tropical moisture to the current Pacific storm that is moving through the Great Northwest this morning. More rain and snow to the region extending south as far as just north of the Bay Area.
The rest of northern California will remain dry for throughout the weekend.
High pressure off the southern California coast will continue to bring breezy winds and a warming trend to the southland through Saturday with well above normal temperatures expected both days.
A cooling trend will begin Sunday with the approach of the first of several lows moving in from the Pacific. Bringing a chance of rain by mid week.
Looking now over to the southwest where under high pressure temperatures will continue to edge into the lower 80s by Saturday and Sunday across the lower deserts. These conditions should last until mid next week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence these gale force winds will continue to be with us for a couple more days. Right now Saturday continues to look like the end of this week-long blow with Sunday starting a period of pleasant weather and winds for the Sea of Cortez.
Here are the details for the wind for 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: 26-29 today and tomorrow, and the mid teens on Saturday.
The central Sea: 35-38 today and tomorrow and around 20 knots on Saturday.
The southern Sea: La Paz and the East Cape around 30 knots today and tomorrow and the mid teens on Saturday.
From Mazatlan to Guaymas along the Sonoran coast: ¼ of the way from Mazatlan to Guaymas today around 20 and light tomorrow and Saturday. From the half way point north to Guaymas the winds will increase as you go north increasing from around 30 to 37 in Guaymas today. Diminishing to the mid 20s on Friday and Saturday.
OF note: Starting this morning this stretch along the Sonoran coast will be available via saildocs. Use “Sonora” in your request. If you are unfamiliar with receiving my reports via saildocs you can email me at bajageary@ gmail.com and I’ll send you the instruction sheet or you can pick up the instructions on the Sonrisanet web page.
Sonrisanet.org.
Now the winds along the Riviera: Mazatlan ballpark 20 knots for the 3-day forecast period. Puerto Vallarta around 20 today, and light NW Friday and Saturday. Cabo Corrienties mid teens today and diminishing to less than 10 from the NW on Friday and Saturday. South of Cabo Corrienties moderate SW winds for the next 3 days.
Temperatures continue to climb. This weekend we should start to see temperatures the 80s again and that would really be nice. I’m a bit tired of these high winds and the wind chill.
