Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the northern and central Sea are pretty much cloud free.
In the cape region they have had mostly clear all nigh however they will start to see some cloudiness starting early this morning.
These clouds are within the plume of the southern jet this morning and are a mix of mostly dense middle level and high whispys. Showers are a possibility in the extreme cape region this morning.
This plume originates in the western tropics SW of Hawaii today and there appears there is abundant moisture building along the ITCZ/Monsoon trough this morning and this 130 mph jet is transporting it toward Baja.
I’d not be surprised if later today, perhaps this evening and tomorrow the plume spreads out to include the central Sea as well.
We’ll see?
Looking south to the Mexican Riviera it looks like from Mazatlan south to Cabo Corrienties will also see this mix of these middle level and whispys pass over starting this morning. There is a lot of moisture in these clouds so there too exists the possibility of sprinkles or showers.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now to the west coast of America where at the top of this image I can see the storms lined up in the northern Pacific and the Gulf of Alaska. The storm door is open and there will be system after system move through the Great Northwest this week bringing snow to Washington and northern Oregon.
Extreme Northern California could see a little rain today but from San Francisco south its clear skies and a short lived warming trend today. Tomorrow a system will drop down from the Gulf of Alaska into the Great Northwest. No rain or snow is forecast in northern California but it will cool things off until the storm passes late Monday. Tuesday northern California should start to see a warming trend well into met week.
In southern California high pressure in the 1032 ranges over the Nevada plateau and low pressure in the 1015 ranges in the south will give cause to gusterly condition in the southland continuing into Wednesday. Gusts to 70 mph are expected in the canyons and passes over the next couple of day until high pressure in the Pacific moves over the state about mid week.
Looking now over to the southwest where a mostly dry cold front will dip down from the Great Basin early this morning. A few snow showers are expected in the northern portion of the state. The only real affect will be that it will cold and windy especially in the western deserts and the Lower Colorado River Valley where 40 mph winds are expected. The low will exit to the east during the day today and tonight.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the tail end of that cold front will sweep though Baja today keeping the temperatures on the cool side in the Sea today.
The pressure gradient between the southern Sea of Cortez and the Great Basin will keep the small craft advisories in the forecast until a brief break on Wednesday.
Here are the details for the winds for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea 30 knot NW today then in the mid teens for Monday and Tuesday.
The central Sea from San Francisqito south to Puerto Escondido. Mid 30 knot winds today. High 20s tomorrow then around 20 knots on Tuesday.
The southern Sea La Paz and the East Cape. Light today building to around 30 tomorrow and then Tuesday back to the mid teens.
The outside passage a bit less than 20 for most of the passage over the next 3 days. A bit higher in the Cedros and Turtle Bay area,
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan moderate today and Tuesday and around 20 knots tomorrow. Puerto Vallarta south to Cabo Corrienties 11-16 over the 3-day forecast period. South of Cabo Corrienties very moderate westerly’s.
