Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see the Pineapple Express has shortened and weakened to about half the speed and length it was yesterday morning. Rather than originate in the western tropics this morning it is picking up moisture from an area of convection around 120 along the ITCZ/Monsoon trough. The plume is now somewhat scattered and not packing those heavy moisture laden clouds like most of yesterday. It looks to me that we will be seeing a mix of whispys and sun today in the Sea.
Looking south to the Mexican Riviera where it looks like they will be seeing mostly sunshine today.
Further south we have a Tehuantepecker building with a capital T. Storm force winds are building this afternoon in the Gulf in the 50-60 knot ranges. The winds are expected to drop to gale force by tomorrow and early Monday and be in the 30 knot ranges with seas up to 23 feet. The fetch to the west of the Gulf is expected to be out around 250 miles.
You don’t even want to be the same neighborhood until this storm diminishes and the Seas flatten out around mid week.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where up in the Aleutian Islands is the next weather maker low that will affect the entire west coast next week.
Right now high pressure remains the dominate feature over the western conus. It will start to weaken on Monday as that low starts to descend south. By Tuesday morning it should be just off the Oregon/California coast bringing rain and snow down to around 3000 feet in northern California.
In the meantime it will continue to be warm and dry in northern California.
In southern California it will also remain fair and warm throughout the weekend. Monday it will start to cloud up and by Tuesday evening that Aleutian storm will arrive and continue through Wednesday bringing rain and mountain snow. Strong winds and steep seas along the coast will arrive prior to the arrival of the front on Monday.
Looking now over to the southwest where dry weather along with above normal temperatures are expected this weekend. That Pacific storm should arrive on Tuesday bringing strong winds to the Colorado River Valley on Tuesday with showers starting to spread east across the region Tuesday night and Wednesday. Snow levels will be around 3000 feet. Thursday will most like be dry and cold as another weaker system is proged to arrive on Friday.
That’s what is happening to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like today will be the last day of these strong northerlies. With the bar over the Great Basin dipping to around 1011 tomorrow the entire Sea should see moderate southerlies. Monday when the gradient stabilizes between here and the Great Basin we should see the return of moderate northerlies well into next week.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea today: 18-19 knot NW then Sunday and Monday very moderate southerlies.
The central Sea today: ballpark 20 knot NW. Tomorrow moderate southerlies in the mid teens. Monday moderate mostly NE winds.
The Puerto Escondido area should see moderate northerlies today and moderate southerlies tomorrow and Monday.
The southern Sea, La Paz and the East Cape moderate northerlies today then light to moderate northerlies on Sunday and Monday.
The outside passage with the exception of Pt. San Quinten which will see around 20 knot over the 3-day forecast period the rest will see NW winds in the mid teens for the next 3 days.
From Mazatlan south to Guaymas will see WNW winds today in the high teens. Sunday and Monday they will diminish to the mid teens.
For the Mexican Riviera Mazatlan should see moderate NW winds in the mid to high teens for the next 3 days. The rest of the Riviera light winds. NW in the Puerto Vallarta area and SW south of Cabo Corrienties.
The overnight lows have creeped up a degree or two in most locations in the Sea and most locations had daytime highs in the mid 70s yesterday. This trend should continue into the weekend.
