Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that most of the Sea is overcast this morning. The southern jet, aka the Pineapple Express is picking up moisture that is pooled along the ITCZ/Monsoon trough out around 130 and transporting it directly over Baja.
Yesterday the Sea had abundant sunshine and then last night the plume started moving over the Baja peninsula. It looks like we can expect to see this plume to be over us for at least the next 24 hours.
This morning the Mexican Riviera is relatively clear of any cloudiness however by later this morning it looks like the plume will also blanket the Mexican Riviera to around Manzanillo. I’m not too sure of the timing on this, but lets say by later this afternoon they should start to see see considerable cloudiness.
Looking south to the Gulf of Tehuantepec where a weak cold front has moved into the isthmus with little fanfare. However a secondary surge of cold air will reinforce the cold front overnight with gale force winds by tomorrow morning and strengthen to storm force by tomorrow night into Sunday morning. These winds will extend out into the Eastern Pacific basin several hundred miles by tomorrow evening.
Looking out along 8N along the ITCZ/Monsoon trough as I mentioned there is considerable convection building in the area around 130 and this pooled moister is lifted by the southern jet and transported toward Baja at around 120 knots.
Well, that’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where high pressure extends from well out in the Pacific to Colorado.
This will continue to keep the west coast dry, sunny and seasonally mild today. These conditions are forecast to last until late Monday night when a cold low will drop out of the Gulf of Alaska and by Tuesday morning northern California will start to see some valley rain and mountain snow down to around 2500 feet.
In southern California a series of lows will begin to move across the region this weekend bringing cooler weather and a return of the marine layer along the coast.
A deeper trough is proged to move through on Tuesday and Wednesday bringing a chance of rain and mountain snow along with gusterly winds.
Looking now over to the southwest where a warming trend will continue across the region as high pressure builds over the desert southwest. This weekend temperatures will exceed the seasonal norms and the highs are expected to reach the mid 70s across the deserts.
Around mid next week temperatures will cool when a cold Pacific low is proged to move across the southwest bringing valley rain, high elevation snow and gusterly conditions.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like we have two more days of these strong winds along with overcast skies.
Here are the details on the winds for the 3-day forecast period: The northern Sea, the high 20s today, low 20s tomorrow and the mid teens on Sunday.
The central Sea: About the same as yesterday in the mid to high 20s. Tomorrow the low 20s and then on Sunday moderate NW winds in the mid teens.
The southern Sea La Paz and the East Cape will continue to see NW winds in the low 20s today. Mid teens tomorrow and Sunday the NE winds will be light.
The outside passage in general moderate winds over the 3-day forecast period except to around Pt. San Quinten where it they should see ballpark 20 knot winds over the next 3 days.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan 11-14 for the next 3 days. Puerto Vallarta south the winds should be in the light ranges and south of Cabo Corrienties have a southern flavor.
Temperatures have continued to climb a degree or two a day in the Sea with many locations breaking the 70 degree mark yesterday, and that should continue today and this evening.
